Literacy

Calvin- “We have been practicing tricky words this week”.

Sophia- “In Writing we were learning how to describe people”.

Robyn and Lucy- “We continued learning about place value. There is only 1 digit allowed in the tens and ones column”.

Health and Wellbeing

Emma – “We have been discussing how to keep yourself safe at school”.

Aayan- “We have been sharing our feeling with your friends”.

Calvin- “We were writing in hand prints about how to keep yourself safe in school”.

These characters helped us improve our descriptive writing this week. Each group had their own character which they named and described. We had names like Eleven, Speckles, Bob and Scales. There were some great descriptions and we are looking forward to sharing the finished versions.

DB I learnt how to use metaphors.  In Metaphors we use the words is or was for example:

Simile- I am as strong as the Hulk

Metaphor- I am  Hulk when I’m angry.

FS- I learnt how to write a descriptive text.  I know that it has to have a title, introduction, characteristics and evaluation.

GH- I learnt how compare numbers.

TN- I learnt to find to add and take away 100000 from a 7digit number.

EH- I know how spell words with ph.

MG-  I enjoyed recreating Henri Rousseu’s painting of a Toucan.

It has been another busy week in P4/3 as we continue to challenge ourselves in our learning. Mrs Morrison and Miss Swanson are proud of the children, well done P4/3

We made the most of the dry weather and enjoyed our first time together on the trim track. We discussed the safety rules and I am happy to report that everyone took part safely and responsibly.

In numeracy this week, we have been exploring number sequences, identifying odd and even numbers and recalling number bonds. Here is an example of our work

A big success this week has been the children’s focus and enthusiasm towards their writing tasks. Miss Taylor visited our class to share her knowledge of descriptive writing. All children were able to write a descriptive piece about dogs and The Big Friendly Giant and as they were doing so, were learning to write in paragraphs. Here are some of the comments from the class about their learning.

Well done P4/3 for an amazing week!!

This week we have been doing chimney sums. When we were doing chimney sums we found That if you made sure that you put each number in its own square it was much easier.

For outdoor learning we went to Eiliburn park with Mrs Dobbie to look for hazards. We went to the lake and saw some swans. We also saw swan eggs.

We also did activities to help us with our literacy and spelling. For grammar we looked at adjectives, verbs, pronouns, proper nouns, common nouns and conjunctions (connectives).

We have been super busy in P2 this week!

This week Primary 4 have been busy again. We have been looking at fables with Mr Turner and for part of this we created our own little animals from clay. We will be using these to create our own fables and story scenes. We had to use our creativity and modelling skills for this. These are our creations below before they dried.

In Numeracy this week we have continued with the theme of addition this week by looking at carrying over in our work. Some of us have found this quite challenging, so we should be practising this at home when we can. I have asked the children to look up some addition with carrying questions online or to ask someone at home to create some for them if possible.

In Literacy we have been looking at descriptive writing. We worked together to create a description of Pandas, including a title, an introduction, the main characteristics of pandas and finally an evaluation saying what we think about pandas. We will continue with descriptive writing but using different contexts. Here are a few of our pieces:

We have also continued our novel study and have been creating drawings of all the characters we have met so far. We have had to use our creativity and imagination, as well as what we have read in order to do this. Each group had a character to draw. Here are some of our characters:
