P5/6 Poetry

P5/6 have been discussing the poem ‘In the Dark’. We looked at the language used by the poet and discussed how the images he was describing matched with what we saw in our own bedrooms at night. We then drew pictures based on our discussions.

Successful P7 and P1 assembly!

Thanks to all the parents and family and friends of Deans Primary for coming along today to support us! Everyone was a bit nervous beforehand but it all went to plan and there was lots of fun had by all – especially when the parents joined in with the Baby Shark song!

In outdoor learning we measured the playing field using trundle wheels.

We have learnt about World War 1 and the Treaty of Versailles.

We have learned how to round to 10, 100, 1000 in numeracy. We used a variety of dice and played games of chance.

We were disappointed that swimming was cancelled yesterday but hope to go next week when the filter is sorted.

Mindfulness in P1/2

Today, our mindfulness story was Pinnochio. We used our imaginations to pretend that we were a wooden puppet our bodies felt heavy and relaxed, we then became human again and were breathing deeply, enjoying the quiet mindfulness.

Elkie – I felt solid when I was a puppet and twinkly when I was a human

Kayleigh – I felt happy after mindfulness

Mark – I liked pretending I was a wooden puppet

After break we became puppets. We worked in pairs with one person pretending they were a puppet and the other was the master. Puppets had to copy their master’s actions.

Maison – This was good fun

Kullyn – I liked being the master because I was in charge.

We are looking to our mindfulness story next week – it is Mary Poppins!

Autumn Leaves

Primary 3 went for a lovely Autumn walk this week and we collected some leaves.  We have been learning to write acrostic poems and we used the words leaf and leaves for our poems.  We made leaf rubbings with crayons, and we have created a lovely display in our classroom.

Families Connect

Today we had another great, fun-filled Families Connect session. This session’s focus was on the importance of praise. Parents discussed different types of praise, took part in a drawing activity (with their non-dominant hands!) and received various types of praise from their partner. We really enjoyed talking about what our children had been up to and the reasons they are superstars. Once the children joined us we made superstar awards together – with lots of sparkles and glue! We are already looking forward to next week’s session which is based on listening.

P2 reflections

”P2 have really enjoyed Math’s week and have been learning to add and subtract in many different ways. We have been practicing different ways of moving our body in P.E using a variety of number games. We have also been playing lots of adding and subtracting board games in class which P2 have  really enjoyed!’
