Primary 2 – Thursday 28th May 2020

Happy Thursday everyone! I hope you had a wonderful Wellbeing Wednesday! Here are some activities to go along with your learning packs for today. Remember to stay safe in the sun!

The first thing I would like you to do today is to watch this video all about sun safety. It has been so lovely to spend time in the sun over the past few days and there are more sunny days to come! Sunny days are wonderful for being outside but we need to remember to stay safe as the sun can be dangerous. Watch the video and discuss the key messages with someone in your home.

Writing

Mrs Anderson has set you a writing task for today! Write a story about the picture below.

Start your story …There was a loud bang and to my surprise, a door appeared on the garden wall.

Learning IntentionWe are learning to write an imaginative story.

Success Criteria – I can give my story a suitable title.

– I can describe a setting and character for my story.

– I can describe what happens in my story.

– I can use capital letters.

– I can use finger spaces in between words.

– I can use full stops at the end of my sentence.

– I can draw a picture to go with my story.

Numeracy

Today, we are going to practise what we know about adding 2 digit numbers together. During number talks in class, we were thinking about the most efficient strategy to add 2 digit numbers. Some people used the strategy of rounding up, and others used the strategy of adding the tens together and then adding the units together. Have a look at the picture for some different strategies to add 2 digit numbers.

Your task is to answer the following questions using one of the strategies above. Discuss your strategy with someone at home.

  • 32 + 23
  • 17 + 12
  • 45 + 13
  • 28 + 41
  • 10 + 37

Extra challenge – 55 + 27

Art

Today, I would like you to draw a picture of a room in your house which has lots of detail. When you have drawn your picture, I would like you to colour all of the 2D shapes blue and all of the 3D shapes red. Remember, 2D shapes are flat shapes and 3D shapes are solid shapes. Can you use different types of lines in your picture?

French

Let’s practice our French colours. Have a look at the rainbow below and colour each arch the correct colour. Once you have finished, you could stick it in your window for everyone to see! I have attached a PowerPoint reminding you of all the colours.

French Colours Powerpoint

 Special Activity

As it is so sunny today, let’s complete a task which uses the sun! I would like you to draw a shadow picture. Take a piece of paper outside and choose an object from your home (this could be any toy or item you like). Position your object so that it’s shadow is on the paper like the photo below. Draw around the outside of the shadow and then move the object so you can see your drawing. Decorate your picture any way you like! Send us a picture of you completing your drawing to wldeans-ps@westlothian.org.uk!

Extra challenge – can you use more than 1 object on the piece of paper?
