P65 Week Ending Friday 10th June

Monday

Green gym first thing. Continued to make bird box.

One group working on place value in maths and estimating, another on long division and another reviewing the four functions.

In P.E. we practised our athletics skills, focussing on hurdles and relay races.

New spelling words out.

Finishing off lots of little art activities in the afternoon.

Tuesday

Marble jar full! Fun day. Morning spent doing educational (but fun) activities. What was really cool was that one small group elected to do challenging maths with support! We watched a movie in the afternoon.

Wednesday

The class spent their time with Mrs D looking at what resources we could buy for the garden .

The live link with Chinese students to continue topic work was excellent, teaching conversations and days and months.

For literacy we did a spelling.

Monday

Jigsaw between break and lunch.

In P.E. we practised our rugby skills, focussing on always passing the ball backwards.

New spelling words out.

Maths: Quick decimal and tables practice.

Tuesday

Literacy: Reading comprehension this week was to draw a book cover for a favourite book, with a quality blurb. Spelling as usual.

Maths: very active measuring perimeters lesson in the playground.

In the afternoon we got lots of construction kits out and investigated creating wheeled vehicle.

Wednesday

The class spent their time with Mrs D looking at the pond that had been vandalized.

For literacy we did a spelling assessment.

The live link with Chinese students to continue topic work was excellent, teaching conversations and food.

Thursday

Literacy: writing about the Millennium Falcon being built in Wales. We spent a lot of time on this.

Careers fayre in the afternoon.

Tuesday

Literacy: Spelling as usual.

Maths: one group worked on revision while another group worked on subtraction of money.

In health today the class split into P5s and P6s and we worked from the Jigsaw program.

We also did coding with Mrs B.

To support our learning on China this afternoon we made paper dragons.

 

Wednesday

The class spent their time with Mrs D working on their French.

For maths the class continued their work on assessment.

For literacy we did spelling as usual.

The live link with Chinese students to continue topic work was excellent, teaching conversations and family members.

As an art activity relating to China we drew dragons in the afternoon.

 

Thursday

Literacy: spelling.

Maths: one group looked at equivalent fractions and another group continued their work on subtraction using money.

Art related to China was the addition of cherry blossom to the trees we started the previous week. We also finished off the drawings of dragons and a health activity for Ms T.

The health activity on “when normal changes” today was lead by Mark.

Friday

Maths: one group continued their work on addition and decimals, moving on from money to measure. Another group looked at qualifying recent maths activities into the four functions, place value etc.

Literacy: Spelling and an excellent talking and listening activity inspired by SU’s socks! Which lead onto AD’s crocs!

P65 Week Ending Friday 20th May

Monday

Language today we continued our work on Shakespeare’s Richard III. Some children took on his role in a hot seat drama activity, and we then all asked him questions. We also got new spelling words.

In maths today we continued work on sequences of number, negative number and related this to temperature.

In P.E. we practised our skills for landing on mats from jumps.

The class also split in two to continue the health work from Jigsaw.

We also spent some time practising our Chinese.

Tuesday

Literacy: Spelling as usual.

Maths: we all worked on money, one group on addition, another on division and the third on related word problems.

In health today the class split into P5s and P6s and we worked from the Jigsaw program.

We also did coding with Mrs B.

To support our learning on China this afternoon we made paper dragons.

 

Wednesday

The class spent their time with Mrs D working on their area and other gardening.

For maths the class continued their work on temperature.

For literacy we did spelling as usual, and related the maths work to reading comprehension.

After lunch we made the most of the good weather and went out to the TrimTrak. Some of the children from this class took the opportunity to play with the smaller children in their playground.

The live link with Chinese students to continue topic work was excellent, teaching how to write Chinese characters and how to identify the radicals that help make their meanings clearer.

At the end of the day we finished the dragons we had started on Tuesday.

 

Thursday

Literacy was a reading comprehension activity on the same Chinese story as the previous week, and how this created designs for willow pattern china. And spelling.

Maths was looking at planning activities and areas of study for the rest of the year.

We did an additional activity looking at the football match of the previous night and the importance of being good sports.

The health activity on “what is normal” today was lead by Mark.

For another health activity today we looked at the jobs of the people coming to the careers afternoon next month.

P6/5 Week ending Friday 29th April

 

Monday:

Maths: Times tables activities

New spelling words given out.

Writing today was the start of our block on information reports: one group wrote about our school while the other wrote about dogs.

Green Gym with Alice was great fun as usual.

In P.E. today we started activities related to athletics.

 

Tuesday:

In language today one group focussed on writing another information piece, this time about the school. The other group started making notes about their chosen topic on China, ready to write up their piece next week.

For maths we continued to look money. One group worked on simple division, another group on subtraction and the final group worked with the class teacher on partitioning to help multiplication.

Coding with Mrs B was great fun, as always.

We finished off our writing about our future jobs for health.

Wednesday:

With Mrs D today the class planted hedges and fixed up the bug hotel.

Maths: assessment on angles and compass points.

Language today was reading comprehension with the children creating questions about their books. We also used this to introduce the idea of referencing sources by referring to page numbers. As another language activity, and ICT, we used HotPotatoes to create jumbled texts from our reading books.

We also continued our research on China.

As part of our health activities the class continued their research into possible future jobs and career paths.

For technology today we used big building bricks in small groups to make bridges.

Thursday:

Maths: we used a Sumdog challenge to improve our skills with number patterns.

Language today was note taking for our Chinese project as well as spelling.

As part of our health program Mark worked with the class on mental health.

We also looked at the topic work we have covered this year.

A group of P5 children were lucky enough to participate in a sports day with other schools from the area.

Friday:

Maths: continued work on number patterns, individually differentiated.

PE: went on the TrimTrak.

 

Health: reviewed our work on future jobs.

 

Reading: identified individual current abilities and next steps.

 

 

 

 

P6/5 Week ending Friday 22nd April

Monday:

Tuesday:

In language today we wrote letters about our activities over the Easter holidays.

For maths we continued to look at time and did an assessment on it.

Coding with Mrs B was great fun, as always.

We started looking at China, which will be our topic this term.

Wednesday:

With Mrs D today the class did small jobs related to out door learning, such as cleaning out the big container

Maths: work on times tables including loop games,  table mountain and other games.

Language today was a listening comprehension on China.

We also continued our research on China.

As part of our health activities the class continued their research into possible future jobs and career paths.

For technology today we used big building bricks in small groups to make bridges.

Thursday:

Maths: we looked at data and ways of representing that at in charts and made our own charts

Language today was a reading comprehension on the recent winter Olympics in China.

As part of our health program Mark worked with the class on mental health.

Friday:

Maths: started working on money.

PE: chose P.E. activities for the term: rugby and athletics. Also identified appropriate warm up activities and timetabling. Tried some of the activities.

 

 

 

 

P6/5 Week ending Friday 11th March

Monday:

No Green Gym, so we took advantage of the lovely weather and went outside and looked at the trees and classified them (deciduous, evergreen, conifer, pine etc). In the afternoon we did a flow chart to help us look at classification

Maths – continued work on fractions, with most of the class looking at mixed numbers.

In language new spelling words went out.

In PE we extended our learning on hockey, focusing on passing and shooting.

Tuesday:

In language today we created scripts for Macbeth and his good and evil consciences. We were able to use drama to help bring this to life, and LM excelled in this. We did this for extended writing, with some of the class working in small groups.

For maths we continued to look at fractions, with most of the class now having a much better understanding of equivalent fractions.

Coding with Mrs B was great fun, as always.

Wednesday:

Maths: one group continued their work on fractions. The rest of the class consolidated their recent maths work by creating loop games.

Language today was extra spelling activity. We also finished writing our “Macbeth’s Consciences”.

Mrs D continued the work on planting trees and posted on Twitter for people to stop walking their dogs in the field.

For IDL we quickly went back over facts and myths in Scotland.

Thursday:

Maths: continued looking at equivalent fractions, drawing pizzas to help us.

Language today was working on questions about the new reading books to help with our comprehension. We also did an extra spelling activity, again.

For IDL we made “fortune tellers” about Henry VIII.

Some of the children helped support the P1s and 2s with their ICT.

We even managed to squeeze in a quick music lesson!

Friday:

Maths: worked on more pizza!

PE: football activities with Mrs M. Also our class game: “Ball Tig”

 

 

 

 

P6/5 Week ending Friday 4th March

Monday:

Green Gym – we started this excellent activity today, with a problem solving task.

Maths – started looking at  scale, as this will help our understanding of the timelines we are working on

In language new spelling words went out. The class also wrote their narrative pieces “If I were a ….. “. The inspiration for this came from “Strawberry”, my pet snake which I had brought in and fascinated the class.

In PE we extended our learning on hockey, focusing keeping the ball close to the stick for accuracy on push passes. AS, SU, SD, EY  and SJR excelled.

For IDL today we carried on work on the timelines.

Tuesday:

In language today we looked at the original script of “Macbeth” and some of the old fashioned words.

For maths we continued to look at scale.

For IDL today we continued work on the Tudors, with partners researching famous people from the time, and continued writing biographies about them. We also continued work on the timelines, adding baby photos and “Not to scale”

 

Wednesday:

Maths: work on fractions including whole number.

Language today was another reading comprehension about the Tudors. The whole class found this very interesting.

The class was delighted to be able to at last support the P1s in ICT

Thursday:

With Ms T the class did activities relating to world book day.

We also did drama today based around “Macbeth”.

Mark worked with the class on a health activity on what will happen to the children in the future and they wrote letters to their future selves.

For IDL today we were finishing off work on biographies and timelines.

 

Friday:

Maths: worked on times tables practise.

PE: tennis activities. Also our class game: “Ball Tig”

 

 

 

 

P6/5 Week ending Friday 25th February

Monday:

Maths was a continuation of work on halving, quartering and percentages.

In language new spelling words went out. The class also wrote their narrative pieces they planned last week. AS and NB excelled.

In PE we extended our learning on hockey, focusing on dribbling and keeping the ball close to the stick. AS, SU, SD, EY  and SJR excelled.

For IDL today we went back to looking at the Tudors.

Tuesday:

In language today we split into four groups and wrote plays. Two groups re-wrote the scene from “Macbeth” with the witches. The other two groups adapted the story of “Anne Frank” and “Little Red Riding Hood”. MDs excelled in his writing.

We were able to perform most of these plays at the end of the day. SU was an amazing wolf! CB, SHP, MM, AD, EY, DW, KH and AS all excelled in drama.

For maths we split into two groups, one of which EY lead, going back over previous work on directions. The other group looked at Roman numerals.

Coding with Mrs B was great fun, as always.

For IDL today we continued work on the Tudors, with partners researching famous people from the time, and started writing biographies about them.

 

Wednesday:

Reading activity: Continued work on summarising the previous book, focussing on the quality of the summary and assessment.

Maths: work on giving directions

The class went to Scotmid with Mrs D today to continue their work on promoting a net zero environment.

With Ms T the class did a book survey because it is national book week next week.

In maths one group looked at fractions while another group worked on practising their tables.

Thursday:

Maths: went back to working on algebra and equations, which we will briefly continue with on Friday. AD, CB, AS, DW, MxD, JH (whose maths is brilliant!) and SJR excelled in this.

Language today was a reading comprehension about the Tudors. Nearly the whole class found this very interesting, and the timeline very useful. MM,SU, EY, AD, CB, AS and MxD excelled in this.

Mark worked with the class on a health activity on the school values, that these can be a transferable skill that the children could practise at home.

Some of the class did an art activity of drawing winter trees. SU and MM excelled in this.

Continuing our work on the Tudors the class started to make timelines in Publisher, including when they were born. AD, DW and MxD excelled in this.

 

Friday:

Maths: worked on timelines, and briefly looked at scale.

PE: tennis activities. Also continued refining the rules of our class game: “Ball Tig”

 

 

 

 

P6/5 Week ending Friday 18th February

Monday:

Holiday!

Tuesday:

Ditto!

 

Wednesday:

Reading activity: new reading books out to all. Worked on summarising the previous book.

Maths: work on giving directions

Science: classification of living things. We learned that fish are cold blooded.

Thursday:

Maths: gone back to looking at the relationship between fractions, percentages and decimals. We will continue to work on this.

Language today was working on predicting the new reading books.

Mark worked with the class on a health activity on individuals perceived themselves and were perceived by others.

Science was again looking at classification of animals, and we will continue to look at some of the characteristics that help to classify.

Mrs D continued the work on the BP net zero challenge

 

Friday:

Maths: one small group continued their work on place value while the majority of the class worked on the addition of mixed whole number and fractions.

Spelling, as usual.

Music: listened to a piece of music and discussed what it sounded like. It was “The Storm” from Britten’s opera “Peter Grimes”. The class thought it reminded them of lots of very relevant things, such as Disney’s “Sorcerer’s Apprentice”

PE: tennis activities, during which SU, SJR, SD and MM were able to lead the learning with one of the activities. Also refining the rules of our class game: “Ball Tig”
