P2’s Busy Week

P2 have been super busy this week!

We enjoyed an afternoon of health and wellbeing. We have been learning a lot about this subject and our mascot Jigsaw Jo has been very proud of all our hard work. We wanted to find out more about what a balanced diet looks like and where different types of food belong.  We worked as a whole class to organise our food into the eat well plate.

We had the author Chris Duke visit our school on Tuesday. He wrote the book called “Lucy’s Blue Day”. This linked in well with all of our health and wellbeing lessons and we know that it is ok to feel lots of different emotions. It is important that we learn to talk about them! The talk given by the author was inspiring.

In the past few weeks, P2-P4 have been taking part in vertical learning. It has been going so well and the children are thoroughly enjoying the experience. This week I had the “Jane Goodall” group and we were learning all about adaptation and how marine animals are able to live in the ocean. We watched a few clips from “Our Planet”, we had lots of discussions and we asked each other lots of different questions. Our main activity was having to create our own marine animal using our imagination and we had to show two ways that it had adapted so it was able to survive in the ocean!

Yesterday afternoon, P2 were learning all about the Spanish artist/architect called Gaudi.  He used a special technique that involved mosaic tiles. He broke colourful tiles into smaller pieces and stuck them together to make a new creation. This technique is called “trencadis.” P2 thought his art work looked amazing and it looked like he was putting together a jigsaw puzzle! We especially loved Gaudi’s dragon found in Parc Guell in Barcelona.

We decided we wanted to create some art work of our own using Gaudi’s famous technique. We used scissors, glue sticks and we cut up small pieces of coloured paper to make them look like mosaic tiles.

Today, Joe brought in a model boat that he made out of wood with his Grandpa! It looks fantastic and it has a lot of detail. Guess what? It can even stay afloat! P2 are so so impressed! You have worked very hard, especially seeing as you finished this in 1 week. Well done Joe, keep up the great work.
