Weekly Update From Primary One

Happy New Year to you and your family. I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and managed to stay well.

Welcome to the first blog post of 2022. The children are  happy to be back at school and have settled  in well . The children have choosen some of this weeks work they would like to share with you-

Literacy – Writing

This term we are focusing on a new writing genre and  will be exploring narrative/descriptive writing.  To get us started we received a very important letter from Jack (from Jack and the Beanstalk) telling us that the giant had followed him down the beanstalk and had escaped. A picture of the glitter trail that led to a letter in our library corner.

We decided that we would we use our imagination to think about where the giant could be hiding and how he was feeling. The children came up with super ideas e.g. behind the beanstalk, on the roof, in the forest etc. We also had some great describing words when writing about how the giant  might be feeling, such as miserable, suprised and lonely. Some examples below-

Numeracy – Time

As well as our normal numeracy we are going to learn about time. We began by looking at daily routines and the children drew things  they do in the morning, afternoon and at night. This enables the children to link daily routines and personal events to time sequences. Some pictures below-

We have also really enjoyed reading and making hungry capterpillars to help us sequence the days of the week.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and I will be back next week with more updates from Primary 1.
