This Week in P3

Literacy

This week, we have been practicing our spelling every day. We have been practicing our words in many different ways. We have been playing games with our spelling words such a roll, read and write.

In reading this week, we have been continuing to develop our skills when reading with expression. For our reading comprehension, we have been developing our reciprocal reading skills. After answering questions about our text, we have to create questions to ask to a friend and write a summary.

For Scottish book week, we had to Stop, Drop and Read. This was exciting as we were watching Newsround when the bell went off. As a class, we have been sharing our recommendation of books to read. We also loved coming into school in our jammies to get our book bags to take home.

Numeracy

This week, we started learning about addition. We have been learning that using concrete material such as 100 squares or counters can help accurately calculate the answer. We were looking at partitioning as an effective strategy to help us calculate the answer.

IDL

For our topic this week, we were learning that a tsunami is created when an earthquake or a volcano erupts under the water. This causes a gigantic wave to be created under the surface instead of on the surface from the wind. A tsunamis hits land and causes destruction.

When watching the news, we also learned there was a small earthquake in Scotland at the start of the week. We are loving how we can research current affairs related to Extreme Earth.

18.11.2021 P4 Class

This week we learnt to use Split strategy for subtraction.  We have also been learning follow directions using navigational vocabulary such as clockwise, and anti-clockwise.  We followed directions for going North, East, South and East.

We made dioramas representing our favorite book. wrote a persuasive text with uplevelled vocabulary and we used our summarising skills in reading.

We played Futsal again and learnt about how to overcome disappointments.

We also programmed ‘ BeeBot’ this week.  As your child what it is 🙂

Numeracy

In numeracy this week, we have been working on subtraction. It has been tricky but the children have enjoyed our numeracy stations. This is where we spend 10 minutes at each table working in our workbook, games to support our learning, laptops and much more!

Literacy

In literacy this week, we have been continuing with summarising. We have been summarising the key points from our reading books. It is Scottish Book Week, so we picked our favourite word boost book, Manfred the Baddie, and created our own ending for the story.

School Challenge

At the beginning of November, the whole school were set a challenge to collect as many crisp packets as possible. We are then going to turn them into survival blankets for the homeless! I am so proud to say that Primary 2 collected 224! Thank you for all your support and sending them in from home.

Have a brilliant weekend :).
