We have been practising the points of the compass by running around the playground – out door learning.

We have been using our art skills to create a drawing of a sunset.

We are going to make a movie! We watched  lego movie made by an eleven year old boy that inspierd us to make our own movie.

We are doing stuff on the rainforest. We have been looking at maps to find out where the rainforests are – they are around the centre earth near the equator, in an area called the tropics. They are located between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn.

In drama we have been working on emotions and facial expressions with Mr Turner.

We have been using tally marks for each table for how they behave.

We have been doing Big Maths Beat That to help us with our maths.

We have also been using the commutative law of multiplication.

 

Welcome to our first blog for this session.  We’ve an amazing week!

For Literacy, we learn to write an informal letter, we learnt to create/ use paragraphs and we learnt visualisation techniques.

For Numeracy, we have been learning add numbers using partitioning strategy and column addition.  We have bee revisiting place value of numbers too.

For Expressive art, we created Zentangle art.

For IDL, we located the Amazon rainforest on the map.  We also identified the countries it belongs to.

For Health and Well- being we revisited the well being indicators and we discusses who our trusted adults are.

It has been another busy week in P4/3 as the children continue to settle into their new class and the changes that have had to be made, due to current circumstances. Well done P4/3 for taking it all in your stride!!

We have practised developing our reading skills and are trying to use reading attack strategies to help us read with more confidence and fluency. We designed new front covers for our books and thanks to Georgia for suggesting to display them around our fireplace in the reading corner, they look amazing!!

In maths, we have revised our knowledge of time and money and discussed how we use these skills in our everyday lives.

All the children have completed a health and well-being questionnaire and next week, we will look at different emotions and feelings through emotional literacy, using a book called ‘The colour monster.’

Outdoor learning with Mrs Dobbie takes place on a Friday and can you please send your child to school with sensible clothing and appropriate footwear (wellington boots), many thanks with your help in this matter.

This week we had a data challenge in Maths. I provided the information and the children chose how to present it e.g. tally chart, pictogram or bar chart.Then they answered the questions around the data.The results were of a very high standard as you can see from the sample below.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We also used our P.4 writing jotters for the first time and we can all be very proud of our first page. At the moment we are focusing on descriptive texts and there were some splendid descriptions.

We have been doing lots of different things in and out of class.

Macy Mae – “We wrote all about ourselves. We wrote our hair and eye colour”

It has been another busy and fun week in Primary 1B, we have lots of exciting learning to share with you all.

We have been reading lots of different stories this week. One of our favourites has been, ‘While We Can’t Hug’ by Eoin McLaughlin.

We have been trying really hard to think of all the different ways we can show we care instead of giving someone a hug and this book has really helped us to come up with new and imaginative ways to say hello or else help a friend out if they are feeling a bit glum. One of our school values which we have been learning about is SAFE. Of course, we know just now that to keep each other safe we have to find different ways instead of touching each other to show we care. Little Hedgehog and Tortoise are taught by Owl that blowing a kiss, making a silly face or doing a silly dance are all ways we can communicate without touching. We have been trying very hard to remember this down in Primary 1B and practise them everyday.  Miss Taylor even taught us about a ‘Jiggie Hug’ on Wednesday and we have been giving Jiggie hugs to our friends and teachers.

Another amazing story we shared was ‘The Invisible String’ by Patrice Karst.

This has been the most valuable book for helping us to feel Nurtured and Included, another two of our school values. It has helped us to feel connected to our loved ones  even when we are not with them. We loved the message of the story so much that we made our own invisible string necklaces alongside a little poem to send home to our grown ups. Hopefully you will have all received a necklace and can wear it with love.

    

We had lots of fun working on our fine motor skills, threading the pasta to make the necklace and then painting it with nice  and bright colours. We hope you love them.

During our story time we have been really good at remembering our amazing listening skills.  Luckily we have a helper to remind us…….

That’s right, it’s Mr Potato Head. He reminds us to have  –

• Listening ears
• Looking Eyes
• Quiet lips, hands and feet

We have also been working on sharing our likes and dislikes about each story we read, alongside talking about the author, illustrator and the blurb. We are getting really good at sharing our opinions and listening to others.

We have been working hard on recognising and writing new numbers and have become something of Number Experts! This week we have learned all about 2 and 3. When we learn about number we learn in lots of different ways. Here are some pictures to show you how we learn.

Next week we are going to be starting to learn all about sounds and letters, as well as learning about more numbers and becoming name writing experts!

This week Primary 4 have been busy getting back into the swing of things with our literacy and numeracy.

We have continued revisiting our addition skills in numeracy and have looked at how to use chimney sums. Some of us have used these before, some of us hadn’t. We will look at these over the next week or two.

We have started a new reading book in our groups. It was nice to be able to read together again. We will use these books to have some good discussion.

Primary 4 have continued our novel study this week by looking at all the possessions Joe has. We then had a think about what our priorities would be if we were a billionaire. It was interesting to hear everyone’s thoughts!

Below are some of our finished kites that we started last week detailing what we liked about P3, what we are looking forward to in P4, what we are good at and what we need to improve on/need help with.

We had a lot of fun this week listening to each others’ ‘True, Twisted and Totally Fake’ stories. Some of them were pretty tricky to guess which was which and these led on to some super discussions. The children were so enthusiastic and I think this is something we could definitely try again later in the year!

P4/3 have had a great first full week back at school after being away for so long!! Mrs Morrison is proud of all the children for their attitude in class as they adapt to the changes we have had to make, well done P4/3!!

This week we have been working hard as a team to make our new classroom look very special. Together, we have designed “The Great Wall of Friendship” and identified the different qualities needed to be a good friend. Some suggestions included “be supportive to your friend, sharing is caring, look after your friend if they are upset and friendship never ends” Picture to follow on the blog next week.

The children have enjoyed outdoor P.E. and have been learning about why it is important to exercise and keep fit. The class enjoyed a range of warm up activities and especially had fun playing the bean game! Weather permitting, outdoor P.E. will take place every Wednesday and Thursday.

Today, the class enjoyed their first outdoor learning session with Mrs Dobbie. Please remember to send your child to school with appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear.
