It’s Monday! Primary 1/2 08.06.20

Good Morning Everyone!

Good Morning Boys and Girls, I hope that you all had a fabulous weekend, are safe, happy and healthy, and of course ready for another week of home learning tasks. Hopefully your new packs will be ready soon, we are having a few technical issues!!

PE

Let’s start off the week by moving our bodies. I have been trying really hard to do more exercise, whether it’s walking my dogs, going on a bike ride with my little boy or even a run. It really is a great way to help lift your mood and help you feel great!

Let’s join in with Joe Wicks for half an hour of movement. Can you convince an adult to join in with you? Follow the link to his Youtube channel.

https://www.youtube.com/user/thebodycoach1

Music/Singing

Let’s have a Monday Morning assembly with the Fischy Music crew, follow the link to the Youtube channel and join in. It is also known that singing out loud can help put you in a good mood, so let’s go. Maybe you will recognise some of the songs from the one’s which we practise in class.

Reading

Last week we looked at two different types of book, fiction  and  non-fiction. Today we are going to read another fiction book. Log into Oxford Owls ebooks – https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/                 username – deans12       password   mrsstevenson

We are going to have a go at reading ‘Painting the Loft’

Before reading, explore the front and back cover, make a prediction about what you think may happen in the story and look through the pictures of the book to discuss what is happening on each page.

With the help of an adult, read through the story remembering to using strategies to help you read any words which you find challenging. Can you remember the strategies we have used in class?

  • Use the picture for a clue
  • Read around the word
  • Look at the individual sounds in the word
  • Can you see a word in a word

As you read through the book, copy down any words which you are finding challenging. Why not make your own word wall to practise reading those tricky words?

There are 2 online games to go with this story – game one focuses on making a rhyming pair and game two focuses on labelling a picture. Good luck and have fun!

Finally,  have a go at the Educationcity game ‘Match me if you can’

Phonics

The new sound for this week is ‘wh’

wh is a red sound, we make this sound using our lips. Have a look in the mirror as you say the sound, look at your lips and what they do.

Here is Geraldine to help us.

Can you name all the wh words in the pictures below?

Have a go at spelling these words. Have an adult read them out to you. Listen carefully to the sounds you hear and draw some pictures to go with your words.

wh -ee -l         wh -i -s -k       wh-i-s-p-er     wh-i-ch    wh -e- n

whe-r-e

French

In  class we did a little bit of work on learning the colours of the rainbow in French. Have a listen to the following song, some of the colours are pronounced very similar to how we would say them in English.

Now have a go at colouring in the French rainbow colours sheet, I have attached it below also there is a copy in your last home learning packet.

french rainbow colours

Numeracy and Maths

Here are your daily ten for today. For this week, let’s have another focus on subtraction. Can you remember the strategies we can use to help us?

  • Draw a picture
  • Use concrete materials (cubes/rubbers/pencils)
  • Use a number line
  • Use our fingers

Make sure you place the symbols in the correct place if you are writing out the whole calculation. This week we are going to challenge ourselves by working with slightly larger numbers.

  1.  10 – 4 =
  2.  13 -1 =
  3. 7 – 4 =
  4. 14 -3 =
  5. 20-10 =
  6. 15-5 =
  7. 10 -2=
  8. 17 -0 =
  9. 10 -5=
  10. 14-14 =

Today I thought I would set you some challenge cards to use outside. I would love to see some pictures of your work.

Good luck with all of your home learning tasks for today. I will be back on the blog tomorrow, enjoy the rest of your day.

Primary 3 – Monday 8th June

Good morning everyone! Hope you are well and had an enjoyable weekend.

Let’s start off with this today:

Remember to keep tuning in to Joe Wicks daily too!!!

Numeracy

For a Number Talk today, let’s think about what we already know for number bonds to 10 – we have number pairs that make 10 – eg 3+7, 4+6. With this in mind, see how many number pairs you can make for 20 – eg 13+7.

If you want to challenge yourself, see which pairs you can make for 30 or even 40!

Next we are going to look at Number pairs with one or two digit numbers to make the next multiple of 10 – eg 22+___ = 30. Try the task attached below:

add to next multiple of 10 – for Mon 8th June

Next try the game attached below:

Mulitple of Ten Game Instructions – For Mon 8th June

Mulitple of Ten Game Red and Blue Cards – For Mon 8th June

Literacy

Reading – Continue to read as often as you can! Remember you can access books like the Oxford Reading Tree ones from: https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/

If you click the Pink icon at the top right that says ‘My Class Login’ and enter Primary 3 Deans as the username and Mrs Hillan as the password then you can access these if you haven’t set up your own account.

Reading/writing:

Watch this video clip on caring for the environment, take some notes on the key points as you watch:

See if you can find any other interesting facts on caring for the environment that you can read.

Choose one thing you could do to help the environment in school and/or at home. Make a poster to encourage people to do it! Think about the classroom and the school as a whole as well as at home. Remember to include a catchy title/slogan, facts/information and pictures.

Spelling – You have a list of spelling words included in your pack – remember to practise these regularly and use the spelling task cards to help! You can find the cards here if you have misplaced yours – http://www.blessedbeyondadoubt.com/spell-cards-printable/ – any problems accessing these email the school and I will help!

You could also try these games to help you learn and spell new tricky words:

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/english-games/5-7-years/words-and-spelling

Think back to our work on SIMILIES –  A simile is a figure of speech that directly compares two different things. The simile is usually in a phrase that begins with the words “as” or “like.” – for example:

As big as an elephant

As cunning as a fox

Soar like an eagle

Have eyes like a hawk

Complete the task below, which has some sentence starters for similies that you might use to compare yourself to something:

SIMILE Task – for 8th June

IDL

Mr Turner and I had planned to discuss the referendum on independence for Scotland and the resulting ‘No’ vote with you all, but we obviously now cannot. Someone at home might be able to help explain this, and how people in the country were asked to decide if Scotland should stay in the United Kingdom or not. Since all of this we have now had Brexit, which I’m sure you have heard something about! Have a search online or ask someone at home so you can maybe get a better understanding of this. Try to note down in your own words (or with the help of an adult), what you think BREXIT means.

Assessment: Ask someone at home to test you on all your knowledge of our Great Britain topic. If you can, write down the questions and answers.

Art

We have all had to spend a lot of time at home just now. Compare your house to a cottage for example. Can you make a model of your house and a cottage? Use whatever materials you have at home. There’s an example of a homemade house below:

Thank you for continuing to work hard, I miss you all very much!

Mrs Hillan

P5/6 Monday 8th June

Maths: Finish money first and then move onto measure. I think all 4 parts of TJay 2a Chapter 13 (a,b,c and d) are useful. This will help support your work on decimals to 3 places. If you have finished these you could do TJay 2a revision work on decimals: Chapters 5 and 7

  TJay 1b TJay 2a TJay 2b
Money Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Chapter 7
Measure Chapter 15 Chapter 13a,b,c and d Chapter 13

Health: Exercise with Joe.

HotPotatoes. If you have not tried it, please do. Look at previoues daily plans in Teams general folder for a spelling activity.

We have to do maths, literacy (language) and health every day. We can, of course, do other areas of the curriculum as well. How we do them is up to us. I think these unusual times have given us the opportunity to use some unusual teaching and learning techniques. I think Devon and Zoey have been using “TikTok” to create their photos of themselves for “Teams”. Could we do something with “TikTok”?

I would also really like to do something about masks. Please look at the “Covid Related Activities” and “Covid Related Links” in Teams general folder. I have up-dated it

Have fun, take care and hope you had a good weekend!

In each square it is asking you to collect items from the environment. Have fun collecting them and at the end you could use them to create a beautiful nature picture.

Everyday there is a random act of wildness –

Today’s act is ……. so why not ask someone at home if they can help you take picture of something in nature that is blue. Enjoy!
