Reading for enjoyment!

Remember that now is a great time to be gathering all your books together and reading your favourite ones again!

We usually have quiet times to read as part of our day in school.

Perhaps you can include this in your day at home?

“JIGSAW” Health and Wellbeing

“JIGSAW” is the main resource that all of our classes are using  for health and wellbeing this session.

As part of the weekly lessons, there are usually “Calm Me” meditation type exercises and also stories clips and songs.

Good Morning Primary 1/2

Good Morning Everybody!

Have a go at teaching an adult our welcome song, don’t forget the actions too.

I hope everybody is working through the week 1 activities and consolidating all of our learning and having some fun too!

Yesterday I made a cake with my little boy and if you have the ingredients available I would thoroughly recommend doing some home baking. It’s a great way to practise all the measuring you have been working on with Mrs Lockhart and of course you get a tasty treat at the end of it all!!

This is the finished cake! It’s a bit wonky but we tried our best.  Have a go yourself and take some pictures of the finished masterpiece, you could even write out some of your own instructions on how you made it!

 

Lets have a go a learning a new sound…..

The sound for this week is ‘oa’ . If you remember, this sound can be found in Inky’s vowel house. It is a black tunnel sound and our lips stay round when making this sound.  See below for the story which goes with this sound. A good little reminder to help you with the sound is ‘when two vowels go walking the first one does the talking’.. you say the first sounds alphabet name and the second sound is not pronounced.

Once you have got to grips with making and saying this sound, here are a few activities you can have a go at to help you consolidate. If you have a printer, you can print them out or simply just display them on your screen and use your jotters to complete the task.

Primary One Update

Good morning everyone I hope you are all safe and well and enjoying working through week one’s activities. I am going to post some new activities for you to try. The children will need some support and guidance and I am grateful for your continued help at this time.

Activity One – new sound ee

Some useful background information. The children are familiar with Inky’s vowel house.

The ee sound comes from the poor donkey in the first window who has a sore throat. He can only say “ee”. The learning intention and success criteria for this lesson and similar to others in the vowel house  –

L.I. – to understand that two letters can make 1 sound.

S.C. I can say the sound to match the letter shape

S.C. I can blend this sound with other sounds to read words

S.C. I can spell words with this sound.

It would be a good idea to have the ee sound written on separate pieces of card or paper and individual sounds on other pieces of paper or card. The children can practice saying the ee sound and blending it with others to make words e.g. b ee, f ee t,  s ee d, m ee t, n ee d etc. It may help to write the words or make a little snap or bingo game to help reinforce that 2 letters can make 1 sound and that sounds can be blended with others to create words. Once they have become more confident recognizing and using words with the ee sound they could go on to use them in a sentence (another good way to check understanding).

Activity Two

Count a collection of objects to 10 or 20. Use this knowledge to estimate the number of objects in a larger group. Then count and check.

Continue to practice doubles and near doubles (yesterdays post) use your jotter to support your thinking if you need to.

Good morning all, hope everyone is safe and well. On the previous post I have uploaded a copy of the number formation rhyme cards that we use at group time to help us form our numbers correctly. Give them a go!!

During our time together we love to read stories. Some of our favourite books include: ‘The Gruffalo’ ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’ ‘Room on the Broom’ and ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ Ask your child to re-tell the stories and if you google the story titles, some are shown on the internet. I know you can access The Gruffalo via BBC I-player.

Good morning everyone! Hope this finds you well.

As well as using your packs, here are some more activities for you today:

-Create a poster detailing all the things that happen in Spring Time – new flowers grow, baby animals are born, trees grow, the days grow longer, the temperature can become warmer etc.

-Practise the numbers to 20 in French – see the link to the song below. Make some cards with the numbers written in French and in English then create your own Snap Game to play with someone at home.

-Read a story, comic or magazine for 15 mins, then record some information on it using your Blooms Superhero Cards to help.

-Practise your 2x Table – write it out and say it aloud – you could even try creating your own 2 x table song like the one below:

Joe hosts a live P.E. lesson every morning at 9am that you can join in with, or alternatively, you can join in later on as they are all saved on his YouTube channel. Give today’s P.E. lesson a go with the people in your family – Miss Borsbey is joining in too! Remember to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated!

Science

Work with someone at home to learn the meaning of the terms ‘waterproof’ and ‘not waterproof’. In your blue jotter, write a definition of each term. Once you understand what each of these things means, create 2 lists in your jotter, one titled ‘waterproof’ and one titled ‘not waterproof’. Investigate different objects in your home and write each object under the correct heading. Which list has the most amount of items on it?
