We have had another extremely busy week in Primary one.
Health and Wellbeing
This week we have been focusing on Celebrating Differences. One of our school values is to make everyone feel included and special. So with this in mind we firstly began to unpick what makes us special? Sophie thinks she is special because she is kind and caring, Mark thinks he is special because he loves taking part in tricky math’s challenges. After a lot of elbow partner discussion we all agreed that we are all special in different ways and that’s a great thing. All of us are unique and have a valuable part to play in our learning community.
This is the picture we used as an example. At first glance they look similar but when you look closer you begin to notice the differences and that what makes them special.
PE
In PE we are continuing to develop our balance and ball skills (we are improving every week!) Here are some pictures to prove it!
We have a lovely visit from our buddies today. They support the children by listening to them read, helping them with tricky words and meeting writing targets. They also come down on a Friday to take them to assembly.
Math’s Challenge
This weeks challenge was to make 10 in as many different ways as possible. The children worked collaboratively in small groups, supporting and encouraging each other.
Other News
We are continuing to learn new sounds and tricky words. The children are blending sounds they know to make new words. We use word mats which encourage the children to identify beginning, middle and end sounds. Some are now changing sounds to create words. We have completed a winter poem plan and will use the plan to write fantastic poems (I will include some photographs of them next week) We have also been researching and writing facts about rainbows. The children were amazed that you can not ever find the end of one or touch them. Nativity songs are being sung everyday, the children are loving it and can’t wait to get on the stage.
