P6/7

In gym this week we have been learning about the Haka and the traditions associated with it. We watched some clips of men and women’s rugby teams performing the Haka. We then worked in groups to create our own sequence of moves in that style. This was also a good opportunity to develop skills in collaboration, communication and leadership. In just two sessions each of the groups did incredibly well and there was a great range of facial expressions, gestures and moves in the sequences. Pupils in the class reported that they thoroughly enjoyed the sessions as was evident from the volume of noise in the hall and smiles on faces!

In literacy we applied our descriptive skills in our last session on narrative writing. We used a video clip from the Literacy Shed website to give us a story start and focus for our writing. We looked closely at the targets for our level to make sure we were including the right aspects. We then used peer and self assessment mats to provide constructive feedback. Next week we will be starting work on information writing and will be creating a leaflet about Japan using Publisher.

In art this week we have been creating pieces based on celebrating difference which is our health theme just now. These are still a work in progress and will be finished off next week. The class are looking forward to working on anime style art as part of our topic on Japan. The lessons will be led by one of our pupils who is very skilled in this area.
