Families Connect Final Session

We went to Innoflate together and had a great time bouncing around, we’re not sure who had more fun, the children or the adults!

Can you spot Sarah hiding in the ball pit?

Back at school we had a special visitor waiting for us – Gary Locke, the Hearts coach and ex-professional footballer! This was very exciting! Gary spent some time with us and then visited a few of the classes, he gave some great advice about becoming a professional footballer – his top tip was to listen to teachers and stick in at school.

Primary 4

What a lovely week it has been! The weather has been great and we have had several reading sessions outside which everyone really enjoyed.

We have started our new topic about our environment and will be working in mixed age groups for the next few weeks for those sessions. Pupils reported that it was really good and interesting. They liked working with different pupils and teachers.

Next week we are re visiting division in maths before moving onto our new topic on measurement.

We celebrated Numeracy day with a carousel of engaging maths activities which pupils worked through in groups. Pupils have said that they would like to do more carousel activities in maths, which we will plan for.

Maths fun day in P5/6

Today was Maths Fun Day. Mrs Lockart and Miss Beattie had organised a basket of fun maths related  activities for us to take part in. We had great fun playing games such as dominoes, fraction games and ‘multiplication dash’. As well as using our maths skills, we also demonstrated excellent skills in team work and negotiation.

“LUCY’S BLUE DAY”Author visit confirmed

“Lucy’s Blue Day” is a story of a little girl who has magical hair which changes colour according to her mood. One day she wakens up to discover her hair is blue and she doesn’t understand why…… this beautifully illustrated story aims to simply explain our emotions and how they affect us.

We discovered this book by having it recommended by a parent on Parent’s evening , who is the cousin of the author Chris Duke! Having bought it and shown it to the whole school at assembly, it has quickly become a firm favourite! There is also a version, suited more to older children, which is now on pre-sale.

We are thrilled to have arranged a visit from the author himself on Tuesday 4th June. He will speak to P1 – 3 and P4-7. If you are interested in getting copies of the books, we have a special code which will mean we don’t pay postage and packaging and he will bring us signed copies when he visits!

Check out www.lucysblueday.com – DEANS  (code)    or follow on Facebook.

In Mental health week it is encouraging to have our children speak openly and identify their feelings, and to realise -as Lucy does that it’s – #OKNotToBeOK

Quick Week P3

Although this has been a very short week for pupils, we have still been working hard.  On Thursday we got together with the other classes on our downstairs corridor to find out that we are going to be working together on our next new topic “Our Planet”.  We will be working with the other classes and we will visit other teachers on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.  We have chosen which group we would like to work in, and we are keen to get started next week.
