We have been learning about acronyms – words which are made using initials of other words, and our focus has been about reading and encouraging others to read.
We are going to print some, and put them on display around our classroom.

Our class are making good progress with their work on division and enjoy playing number games related to it. Next week we are hoping to get outside to complete measurement tasks as part of our new maths topic. Times tables continue to be very important for this and pupils should revise them as often as possible.
In literacy we completed our “Lighthouse” narrative stories. We have been working on it for the past two weeks and pupils are very proud of their efforts and are keen to read them to everyone.
Our environmental topic groups are working really well. Pupils have now worked through their second activity block and will move onto their third block next Tuesday. Pupils have been making good use of their general knowledge in these sessions. In my group the most popular activity has been learning about how the snub nosed monkey adapts to it’s environment.
We started our new maths topic on measurement and decided to measure objects in our classroom. We had various types of measuring aids, so had to decide which would be the most effective for measuring our object.
In PE we were practicing our throwing skills so decided to use our measuring skills to see who could throw the furthest.
In our next maths lesson we plan to use these measurements to convert between mm, cm and m.
You may remember that before Easter, children were asked to design posters to promote the events leading up to and the Deans Gala Day itself.
These posters are now with the committee, and may be appearing in the library or local businesses very soon!
We have chosen a selection from some of the classes…

Today in Health and Wellbeing we were learning about friendships. We discussed what we thought friendship was and debated scenarios where both sides of the story were given. This led to discussion about whether it might be appropriate to break a friendship under certain circumstances. We also thought about ways to save friendships and things we could say to mend friendships that have been broken.
As part of Mental Health Awareness week we have continued to learn about strategies to support us, however we may be feeling. Mindfulness and trying to be in the present, helps us to focus our minds and slow down our thoughts.
P5 and P7 pupils worked together last week to design and make their own jars – either for themselves or to gift to someone.
They loved the process and the finished results!
