Target Setting in P3/4

At the end of last term we reflected on the our progress made in reaching our individual targets. We then had to gather evidence of the different ways our targets were achieved. This week children identified areas of improvement and as a result new targets have been established.

P3 – Sharing the Learning

We are now back at school after the Easter break,  for our last term in primary 3.  Although it was a short week, we have been very busy.

We had a very exciting afternoon on Thursday, when we had our Sharing the Learning afternoon.   In writing we wrote invitations to parents and friends inviting them to come to visit our class. We used ICT to make power point presentations, and we learned how to insert a picture onto a slide and add a sentence.  We planned our script to accompany our powerpoint presentation.  As a class, we chose which activities we wanted to share with our families.  At the end of our presentation, we performed our “Walk like an Ancient Egyptian” song.

Lots of people came to visit our class.  At times,  it was very noisy and very hot, but we enjoyed the afternoon – a big thank you to all who attended and made our afternoon such a success.

Hopping into a New Term

Welcome back to our final term in Primary 1 and Primary 1/2. What a busy and quick year it has been!

We have been learning about different signs of Spring.

A big thank you to Mrs Walker for displaying all our Spring time art. They look fantastic!

We explored different elements of line to create funky bunnies. We had to concentrate really hard and use our careful pencil skills to create a fantastic effect. We even designed some very cool sunglasses.

Lexie- We made Spring bunnies. I had fun putting on the glasses.

Aayan – I liked the way we made them, especially when we had to colour in and make the lines. It was tricky to cut out though!

Brendan – I like everyone’s bunny and I think they did a super job.

We went on a walk to look for different signs of Spring…….it really didn’t feel like Spring. The sky was grey and it was freezing cold!!

We found lots of plants and trees that have started to show buds. Some have pretty flowers already!

We used our senses to explore the different plants. Some smelled beautiful but some did not!!

We thought we had spotted baby sunflowers across the field, but then we realised that they were dandelions.  Even though they are weeds we still think they are a beautiful Spring colour.

Kayleigh- I saw lots of dandelions in the grass. They have another name but I’m not going to say it.

Roman- We found some acorns in the grass and took them for our loose parts.

We helped Mrs Dobbie and our Primary 7 buddies to plant trees. They are going to be the boundary for our community garden. It was fantastic fun and a great way to help the environment…….thank goodness the sun came out!

Sophie- I liked planting the mini trees.

Brendan- I liked digging the holes for the trees.

Ethan – We found lots of wiggly worms. GROSS!!

Charlie- I enjoyed planting the saplings, just like in Minecraft.

What a fantastic word, well done Charlie!!

What a great start to our new term!

Blankety Blank – P5/6

During our reading lesson we created reading sticks and used them to help us with our new ‘Blankety Blank’ game. We worked in pairs to read a passage with missing words and had to used our reading skills to fill in the blanks.

Egyptian Week in P3

This week we have been working on our Ancient Egyptians topic.  We have been writing hieroglyphs for our hand writing – it is great fun but a very slow way to write.

We have been working on our maths using the number system that the Ancient Egyptians used.  It is really tricky, we managed to write the date quite easily but adding up Ancient Egyptian numbers was really challenging.

We had a fabulous trip to the Museum of Scotland where we visited the newly opened Ancient Egypt Gallery.  We saw lots of lovely artifacts and exhibits.  Our favourites were the canopic jars (Emily ), the mummies ( Kyle), the hieroglyphic slabs (Emily C) and the bust of Nefertiti (Oscar).

“It was lots of fun” Lily   “It was amazing” Sophie  “We were all very tired after our trip” Emily  “We enjoyed a play in the play zone” Kara

We have been creating some lovely artwork in the style of Nefertiti.  We saw a bust of Nefertiti at  the museum, and we tried to create our own pictures in a similar style using a black and white photograph and wax crayons.
