P3 use Comic Life in ICT

One of the highlights of the day today was using the comic life program on the laptops to make a comic strip.  We used some of the photographs we took when we made the peach crumble last week.  Although we need to finish off our comics, the children were very enthusiastic and commented “it was great fun”  “it was hard at first”  “can we do this again?”.

Our next step will  be to add speech bubbles to our comic pages.

P5/6 Art

This week in Art we created a small sketch book  (lots of folding was involved!)  where we began to sketch  some pictures of The Titanic. We  gave each other feedback on how to improve our original sketches and used this feedback to sketch make our next sketch even better

Prefects make their pledge

Congratulations to all of our 10 prefects who were introduced to the whole school at a special assembly on Friday! They were all thrilled to be given this important role and were excited to have the support of many family members on the day.

Primary 7 enjoyed their first visit to Deans Community High School swimming pool, as part of their transition programme. They were pleased to meet some of the staff  and enjoyed the chance to be in the High school.

As part of Health and Wellbeing this week P7 discussed what is bullying? We have our own simple definition- after much debate- which is :

when someone sets out to put you down “

whether it be verbal, physical, online or in person. Children were very open and honest about situations they have been in and are now designing posters they would like to give to each class to share their learning.

Weekly update from Primary 3/4

It has been another busy week in class. We have been learning to be a good friend and how making the correct choices can benefit the whole class. We had a lovely afternoon making compliment clouds and they have  certainly brightened up the classroom!!

A big focus this week has been to improve the quality of our writing pieces. We are learning the different ways of taking notes and how this can help transfer our ideas into paragraphs. We are proud of our progress and our next steps is to peer and self assess our writing pieces, using a range of strategies.

P3 Get Cooking

P3 made peach crumble as part of the James and the Giant Peach topic.  In writing we wrote out the recipe.  Then in the afternoon, after we washed our hands, we got started making our peach crumble.

We made two crumble dishes, one with  fresh peaches and  one with tinned peaches.  We compared the similarities and the differences between them.

First we put the peaches in the dish, then we weighed the flour, sugar and margarine.  We mixed them together and put the crumble mix onto the peaches.  We baked the crumble in the oven for 30 minutes.  After it cooled, we all had a taste of each crumble.  Most people in the class preferred the tinned peach crumble.

P1/2 Science

Today P1/2 were being scientists exploring and experimenting with loud and quiet sounds. We walked all the way upstairs to the music room listening carefully to all the different sounds we could hear around the school. We heard chatting, the door squeaking, footsteps and people coughing. Upstairs we used lots of different instruments to make loud and quiet sounds.

Harrison – I loved making loud noises

Tyller J – My favourite sounds were the loud sounds

Ethan – I liked the quiet sounds

Families Connect

Yesterday our Families Connect group’s focus was on listening. The adults took part in some activities with one another before the children joined us. When the children arrived we all had snack together as usual and then we made ‘magic envelopes’. In the middle of the magic envelope the children drew pictures of one of their favourite things and then worked with the grown-ups to write clues about their favourite thing on the flaps of the envelope. We all got back together to try and guess what was inside each magic envelope. This was great fun!

Next week our focus is on books, we can’t wait!
