Primary 7 have enjoyed a busy few weeks of settling into routines and taking on the responsibilities that being the oldest in school brings!

We have buddies in Primary 1 and have enjoyed helping them in their first few days to settle into Deans Primary School and since then have met for Buddy lunches, paired reading sessions and Buddy playtimes.

We are looking forward to our JOINT BUDDY ASSEMBLY on FRIDAY 28th SEPTEMBER, when we will introduce our Buddies to the rest of the school.

Our class novel this term is “The Turbulent Term of Tyke Tiler” and we have already learnt about the main characters, discussed the plot and predicted what might happen next, at various cliffhanger moments.

Last week we participated in various active Maths and Numeracy challenges for Scottish Maths week, where we had to work collaboratively to solve puzzles and use various maths skills throughout. Our main focus has been to improve speed and efficiency at recalling our tables facts.  We have been using the  Sumdog programme too and were keen to collect more coins!

To develop our Thinking Skills we have regularly played 20 questions. From this we realised that many of our class have a keen interest in animals, but did not know how to categorise them in order to answer our questions. As a result, we decided that learning about classification would be useful! We have now looked at Vertebrates and Invertebrates and how we classify creatures from scorpions to polar bears!

Prefect interviews took place on Friday morning and there was a great response! There are 10 prefects to be appointed and it comes with responsibilities and priviledges! There were lots of nervous preparations taking place and we look forward to hearing the results!

We are very much looking forward to swimming sessions, which begin this Thursday, and are part of the transition programme for Deans Community High School. We will be taught by teachers that we may be working with when we start First year at Secondary.

Our Weekly Reflection Primary 3/4

Today in primary 3/4 we have been reflecting on our learning over the past week. We worked in groups to share our ideas. Here are some of them:

“I have been learning to add and subtract numbers” Keira

“Our group was learning to add in 100’s eg: 300 plus 400 equals 700.” Cameron and Leo

“I enjoyed the visit from Karen from the Youth choir who taught us how to keep a beat to the music.” Debbie

“I enjoyed creating our own maths game, demonstrating our learning of adding and subtracting numbers up to 10,000” Lewis D

“After reading the BFG dream chapter, I wrote my own story about my ideal dream. ” Liam D

Thank you for reading our ideas!

Puppet Project

In The Den we have taken an interest in puppets. This week we have enjoyed playing with the finger puppets and we even made our own wooden spoon puppets! We are looking forward to planning and putting on our own show over the next few weeks – we all have fabulous imaginations!

Peachy Writing from P3

P3 are working on the novel James and the Giant Peach.  We are enjoying the story, and we have reached the part when James has joined lots of creatures inside the giant peach. This week is Maths Scotland week, and in writing today we were calculating how many legs were inside the giant peach. We wrote lovely sentences, and gave our writing a peachy effect with sponged watercolours at the end.

Primary 4

P4 have settled down well into the new term and are quickly becoming accustomed to new classroom routines.

We are currently working on our novel study, Charlotte’s Web, and the class are keen to take part in related drama, art and writing activities. In maths we are currently working on place value and are revising addition, subtraction and times tables.

In P4 this term gym will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Could you please ensure that your child brings the appropriate kit to school and doesn’t wear any ear rings on those days.

Thank you.
