Woodlands topic

Primary 4 are continuing to learn all about the Woodlands. We have already been out in the playground and on the field identifying trees by looking at leaves and flowers. We have learned to categorise creatures into vertebrates and invertebrates and this week focused on minibeasts and life cycles.

We are also almost finished our cooperative group challenge to design and make a tree house from recycled materials. These will be ready for our next Sharing the Learning in June.

Having learnt about halves and quarters last week in numeracy, we continued our learning about fractions finding out about thirds. We also had to place fractions on a number line – this was tricky till we asked would you rather have half of your favourite pizza – sharing with 2 friends, or a tenth – sharing with 10 !

We are looking forward to “Rookie Rockstars” next week!

Fractions Fun outside!

Primary 6 enjoyed enhancing their fractions knowledge in the outdoors. A quiz was set up around the playground area that contained various fractions related questions and each question came with a clue. Once all questions were answered and all clues collected, we then had to use the clues to work out the secret message at the end. The children worked well in their pairs and enjoyed taking Maths outdoors.

Sophie said “I liked having to find all of the hidden clues.”

Corey commented “I liked the challenge afterwards to figure out the secret message!”

Jessica said “I learned that I’m good at team work.”

P6 do Judo

Primary 6 enjoyed taking part in a Judo session last week. We learned some new skills as well as having lots of fun!

Louie said “I liked bringing my partner to the floor!”

Emma commented “I learned that you have to be very careful and observant when doing Judo.”

Hopefully the session has inspired some of our children to take Judo up as a hobby.

Tricky sounds!

Today a group of Primary 3 children practised a sound that they find tricky – ‘aw’. We searched for words that had ‘aw’ in them (claw, straw, awful, hawk, etc),  we practised making the words with magnetic letters and we made ‘aw’ words that we matched to pictures. Next time we are going to practise ‘au’  – it sounds the same, but it looks different!

PE Week Beginning 14th May

This week we all started our new topics in PE. WE are now learning about fitness.

Each class had a chat about what the word ‘fitness’ means to them. Each class mentioned a healthy diet and exercise. We talked about different types of fitness and discussed if we had a favourite way to exercise.

Primary 5 warmed up by stretching and going for a jog. They then worked different muscle groups through exercises. They worked with partners to do 10 sit ups at a time – the partners held their feet down to make sure the sit up was effectively working the abdominal muscles. They then worked their chest, arm and shoulder muscles by doing press ups – they chose which type of press up they were most comfortable with. They moved on to trying out burpees, mountain climbers, and finally, they ended with a plank competition!

P4 Sharing our Learning

Primary 4 had a great afternoon yesterday when we shared our learning about Active Numeracy with lots of visitors. We began by playing a  game to build up our quick recall of tables facts. We explained the activities and set about showing our visitors the many ways we learn about numeracy. We had Top Trumps games, snakes and ladders, race against time, computers using the interactive resources and Education City, and even Money Board games we designed and made ourselves!

Family members who came along all joined in and some even took part in our tables game at the end! Primary 4 were impressed! We had lots of positive comments and are looking forward to our next Sharing the Learning about our Woodlands topic. Thank you to everyone who was able to come along and participate!

Fun at break time with Primary 2.

Primary 2 have been using their imagination at break and lunch times to build different objects like houses and castles, just like we were learning about in our last topic.

Jaxson said “I liked making castles because it was fun! It kept me focused when I was outside.”

Colin said “I helped to build a castle outside. I really liked it because it looked cool!”

P2 Judo Stars!

Primary 2 went to Judo and enjoyed learning some new skills and games.

Hope said “It was fun when we had to hold our partner’s jacket and try to pin them down for ten seconds by lying on their chest.”

Debbie said “I liked working with my partner, Kiera M and trying to get her off her tummy and onto her back.”

Den Group

This week, the children were so excited to invite a friend or an adult from home to the den. They had great fun showing their special visitor around our wonderful den and then spending time playing with each other. Thank you for coming to visit us!
