Frequently Asked Questions: Answers based on session:

  1. How do you decide who is in which clan?

We asked pupils about friendships and SLT discuss with champions, using the WL guidance on composites.

2. Will pupils repeat learning being in a composite? For example vikings in P2 and P3?

IDL and learning is based on pupils interests, so this will change no matter what clan your pupil is in.

3. In your Sway you talk about leadership opportunities and soft skills but does this mean learning and teaching is at a disadvantage?

Learning and teaching should have more teacher/pupil targeted time as the classes are smaller and can have more input/longer teacher time due to this.

Litter Pickers in the community.

During the February break- a group of 6 local children completed some litter picking in the local area- on one of the streets close to school (Cameron Gardens) which had been impacted by a lot of rubbish!

There was some amazing feedback regarding the six pupils. They gathered the rubbish with such enthusiasm and they managed to fill 12 rubbish bins of litter!!
This was also reported on the Calderwood Facebook page and received lots of praise from the local residents.

Be an Author Competition

As part of our Book Week Scotland Celebrations, Calderwood took part in a ‘Be an Author Competition.’ This involved all pupils writing a narrative story about a quest or adventure. Each clan nominated a winner for their clan that would go through the final. All entries for the final were judged by an author called Linda Erskine. Well done to all of our clan finalists!

A massive congratulations to our P1-3 winner, P4-5 winner and P6-7 winner. All pupils have received a voucher to spend at Waterstones. Enjoy your celebrations! We are all so proud of your achievement!
