This week we have been learning about being safe in our community.

Safety Walk
Walk around the house/community and count how many unsafe items (open cupboard doors where someone could bump their heads, toys on the floor where they could trip etc.). Discuss ways to keep safe at home and in the community e.g. looking both ways before crossing the road.

Champion Update

This week we say goodbye to Miss Wood PSW, we wish her the best of luck on her new venture and thank her for her work at Calderwood Nursery supporting our children. We are currently undergoing the recruitment process and will update you with our new PSW champion as soon as possible.

Our champion team is continuing to grow. Below outlines some changes to our team for 2023/2024.

Calderwood primary and nursery will have an increased management team next year, with a Head Teacher, Depute Head Teacher and three Principal Teachers.

We have recruited two new Early Years Principal Teachers who will support with overseeing and leading the nursery, one PT will join us at the end of May and the other in August.

In June, Mrs Brito returns from maternity leave. Mrs Brito and Mrs Lewis will become a part time job share. Therefore, we will be recruiting another Early Years Practitioner to join us in June. We will also be recruiting for another EYP for August.

We look forward to welcoming all new champions.

The children had a visit from Scott Fleming a local children’s author. There is an opportunity for parents/carers to purchase a signed book. If you would like to order, please hand your form in by next Friday.

Ramadan/Eid

We have been learning about Ramadan/Eid.  A link has been put on LJs to a video all about our learning.

HOME LINKS:

We have been learning how to identify a number without counting (subatizing) e.g. a dice or domino dot pattern and recognising this is a 5 without counting 1-1 correspondance.

At home practice subatizing using every day items or dot patterns on dice or dominoes.

You can learn more about this here and play some online games: https://www.learningtrajectories.org/math/learning-trajectories/subitizing

We have also been making our favourite stories silly e.g. the mouse took a walk through the deep dark shop instead of the mouse took a walk through the deep dark woods. At home make your favourite story silly – you could record it, draw it or say it!
