Recently, it was published evidence that nasal irrigation with salt water helped reduce the cold in adults. We have also shown the mechanism for how salt water helps with the common cold when applied on the nasal epithelium. Our research showed that cells use the chloride from the salt water to fight viral infections. Hence, we are now testing if salt water nose drops helps children fight the cold.
If you have a child under 7 years of age, you may be able to join the fight.
The Children’s Hospital in Edinburgh are doing a study of salt water nose drops to see if it helps get rid of the cold faster.
Your child does not need to have a cold right now to take part!
You can join right now by calling/texting 07973657457 for an appointment to sign up and to be taught what to do the next time your child has a cold.
Your child does not need to attend.
Families completing the study will receive travel expenses and a £30 voucher to compensate for any inconvenience.

Book Week Scotland – Book Donation
Are you having a clear out of old books or do you have any books you have read and would like to pass on to others to enjoy? If so, then as part of Book Week Scotland, we would like you to donate any books that you no longer need or use to our school libraries for the pupils to enjoy reading.
Book week Scotland takes place from Monday 14th November until Friday 18th November. Throughout that week, pupils can bring in any books they would like to donate to our school. They will receive a sticker to write their name on and place inside the book.

This morning we had another moment in history for Calderwood Primary as we had our first ever house election!
We gathered together in our houses and listed to the Primary 7 children who wanted to be our house and vice captains.
The manifestos from each of the children where fantastic! They had to prepare a 3-5minute speech which included including the following information:
Roe House
Fallow House
Red House
Sika House
Our champs had the very important job of carefully counting all the votes!
The children were very excited to phone home to share their news with their families!

We enjoyed dancing and playing games, and some won prizes!!

We had lots of fun dancing under the disco light!

And finally we enjoyed some cupcakes or sweets with some juice!

Thank you so much to everyone that has donated and taken part in the parent council Halloween Fundraisers. Together you raised an incredible £481.50.
Kind regards,
