Calderwood Commitments

• 17/05/24 – 27/05/24: iPay open for C in the Park Ticket Order. In order for us to ensure we place enough orders for resources and foods, and that none of the resources are wasted, we do have a closing date of 27^th May for tickets. Tickets should be ordered through iPay for the time slot you would like to attend, access to the outdoor activities runs for the full time. You can find out more about C in the Park here.

• Glasgow Clan put on an excellent Connects all about Castles. They explained the features of a castle, the cost of armour and what food & dancing would have been like in the Great Hall. Well done Glasgow Clan
• This week we had visitors from West Lothian Council planning team and Ray Kirk, to look at the unique features of Calderwood Primary & Nursery and how they enhance the learning experience for our children.
• Our champions joined in with Wear It Green Day for Mental Health Awareness Week remembering – It’s okay not to be okay!
• Bluebell and Bramble had a visit from the Dog’s Trust this week, find out more here.

• Clan structure for 2024/25: Next session the proposed clan structure is 24 clans at Calderwood Primary, this means that in the next academic year all clans will be hosted in the main building, with the cabins being used as communal learning spaces. For example the children have decided one of the cabins will be used as a recording studio for films, podcasts, etc. We will provide more information about this at the next Parent Council meeting.
• Clan changeover programme: You can find details of our transition programme for June here.
• It is fantastic to see the sunny weather! Please ensure your child wears suncream before coming to school, and they might want to bring along a hat for when they are outdoors.

Calderwood Compliments:

• We had a fantastic Connects on Friday by Tummel Clan. They shared the very important message about ‘bucket filling’ and how rewarding it is to express daily kindness, appreciation, and love.
• Thistle and Schiehallion clans had a fantastic morning out at the West Calder Cross Country Event at Polbeth United pitches.  They supported each other wonderfully and all children completed the race. To top off a brilliant morning, Calderwood Primary Boys were the winning team, coming first in the overall team event!

Calderwood Compliments:

• A huge well done to our Glee Club – Stag Squad, who performed in the Glee Competition at Central Hall Toll Cross. Their performances were amazing and we are so proud of how professional they were. A huge thank you to our champions for giving up their time to lead Glee Club and take them to the event and to the families for supporting.
• Our mini champ, pupil leadership groups met this week to continue the actions on their action plans. We ae excited to see what they can achieve.

 Calderwood Compliments:

• We had our Dragons Den: Be an Engineer Competition this week. The children who represented their clan in the competition were fantastic and the judges had a very difficult task of picking a winner for each level. Thank you to our judges for supporting the event. A huge congratulations to our winners! You can find out more in this blog post.
• This week our Primary 6 clans had our second visit to Heriot-Watt University – we explored the University as a whole (including lecture theatres!), the National Robotarium and even spent time in the Oriam. You can find more about the visit here.

 

We can’t quite believe it is the end of another term. It has been a busy time for us with lots of achievements and improvement progress made. I hope all our children and families enjoy the Easter holidays, thank you for all you support this term!

• Champion Update:
  • Ms Robertson is taking a break from Calderwood in Term 4 as she studies to be a teacher, she will return the last week of term. We wish her lots of luck with her teaching placement. Miss Threadgold will cover in her absence.
  • Mrs McCann joined us as a PSW last week and Ms Lee will join the team on Monday, this brings our pupil support team to the equivalent of 9 full time PSWs.
  • Next week we are interviewing for 2 new lunch time supervisors, this will bring our lunch time champ team up to 5.
  • Mrs Herbison who has been doing non contact teaching is finishing up with us at Easter, I would like to thank her for supporting us on our journey and helping us with staff absence.
  • After the Easter holidays, Mrs Bates will return to her Principal Teacher post. The champion team would like to thank her for all her contributions and support during her time of Acting Depute Head Teacher.

• It was fantastic to see such a great turn out for Champion Conversations this week, thank you to the children who helped us to run this event.
• Our Primary 2 children and Tummel had a fun time on their trip to Almond Valley this week. Thank you to our parents/ careers who supported the trip and to the champions who helped to make it possible.
