Calderwood Connects: Information

As our restrictions in school change, we will start to introduce in person assemblies with our children.

On Friday 25th March, we will have a trial so the children can get used to being together in the Arena with some clans.

On Friday 1st April, we will have our first Calderwood Connects all together in the Arena.

The social story below will help your child know what to expect during these sessions, the champions will go through this with them but you may wish to reinforce this at home.

Calderwood Connects Social Story

Unfortunately, at this time, we are still unable to invite parents and careers along, we will share on our blog what we have discussed with the children.

Scottish Poetry Calderwood Competition

As part of our Scottish focus for learning and Burns Day on 25th January the children are participating in a Poetry Recital Competition and have taken home a range of Scottish Poems. The children should choose one poem to learn. The children should learn the poem by heart and use the following success criteria. All children should learn their poem however this is no expectation that they need to recite it in front of the clan if they feel uncomfortable. They also have the option to film their recital, do it to the teacher privately, or as a group. As you will see below, some clans have the same option of poem – this is as these classes are working within the same Curriculum for Excellence level and allows for differentiation. In clan qualifying recitals will take place on Friday 21st January and finals will take place on Friday 28th January (these will be filmed for your viewing).

Calderwood Counts – West Lothian Sumdog Competition!

Today a member of our Ben Lomond Clan had the special privilege of announcing the start of the Sumdog Maths Competition to all our Clans during our Calderwood Connects.

This Competition is open to all primary aged children in West Lothian Council. It began today (26.11.21) and will run until Thursday 2nd December. All members of our Calderwood Community can access Sumdog by clicking here and using their unique username and password. Our School Code is calderwood2.

Within minutes of the competition opening we had a member of our Ben Lawers Clan on the leader board! We very much hope this was the start of a very exciting trend for our Calderwood Community – good luck and happy competing.
