Aberdeen: Safer Internet Day
Aberdeen clan celebrated Safer Internet Day on Tuesday 6th February. We watched a BBC Live Lesson which focused on technology of the future and provided an insight into the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI). We were amazed by the concept of driverless cars! We made notes and then created posters to share our new knowledge.

Dundee Trip and Enterprise
Dundee clan’s trip to Dynamic Earth was fantastic! We enjoyed a tour around the centre finding out about our amazing planet. We loved the 4D cinema, the planetarium and the rainforest section. There was so much to explore. We were also able to show off our knowledge about the rainforest in the rainforest workshop, showing the leader what we had already learnt in school. Mrs Scobie was very impressed with everything that we had remembered.
We have absolutely loved working on our enterprise project creating Christmas craft to sell to other clans. We decided on the crafts we wanted to make and sell, working together in groups (like little hard-working elves) to complete as many items as we could, alongside creating a persuasive poster and price list. We have worked on skills which will support us as we journey through our lives such as teamwork, creativity, focus, concentration, resilience and perseverance. We had a great time selling our crafts and used our skills of persuasion during the sale.

Bramble and Bluebell Christmas 2023
Bramble Clan looked at Christmas traditions in Scotland, with focus on pantomimes. They looked closely at the various features of a panto such as fairytale storylines, characters, comedy, Scots language, script writing, audience participation and prop and costume design. They then practised and performed their own mini pantomime at our Christmas at Calderwood concert. This was a fantastic opportunity for the children to further develop their meta-skills including creativity, collaboration, leading and communicating. The performance was absolutely amazing and the clan loved this experience. Various comments from the children included they “loved designing and wearing the costumes”, “making people laugh was fun” and “we enjoyed working together to create our own song and actions”.
A group of children from both Bramble and Bluebell have been performing with the choir at various Christmas celebrations in the school. They also visited the Linburn Centre for veterans with sight lost. This was a fantastic opportunity for the children to perform outside of school, building on their confidence and expressive arts skills. They were absolutely outstanding and the feedback from the centre included “they all looked very smart”, “very professional during their visit”, “well mannered” and “such a joy to speak with”.

Both Bramble and Bluebell had a wonderful time at their Christmas party. They played lots of games, performed party dances and even had a few boys vs girls dance offs. Lots of fun was had by all involved!

The clans ended the term with auditions and castings for their show next term. It was clear that lots hard work and effort had went into preparing for the audition and all Champions involved were blown away with the talent on display. We are so proud of you all.
It’s safe to say that Bramble and Bluebell clans have had lots of fun this festive period. Both Miss Truesdale and Miss Boden have loved getting to know their clans this year and can’t wait for next!
Have a wonderful Christmas when it comes and we will see you all in 2024.

Crime Scene Investigators – Schiehallion and Thistle. What will they solve next?
This term as part of our IDL Topic we have been learning about Forensic Science. We have also been reading the book Holes by Louis Sachar, and have found direct links between the situation Stanley Yelnats find himself in and CSI gone awry.
Below are a selection of records displaying our children’s perspectives on our IDL. Please do ask your child all about the topic and we very much look forward to watching the Holes Movie as a reward for all our hard work! A GroupCall will follow with information about permissions for this film.
Dundee Clan – Water Cycle and Money
The Water Cycle
As part of our learning about the Rainforest we explored the Water Cycle. We learnt words such as evaporation, condensation and precipitation. We discussed what each word means and what takes place at each of these points in the cycle. We created a water cycle in a bag experiment and placed it on our clan window. Hopefully we will see the water cycle in action.

Money
We have been learning about money. We have been revising the coins and notes we use, totalling money amounts and making amounts in different ways. We also created our own shops with items and prices displayed and went shopping in each other’s shops, recording items we would like to purchase, noting their cost. We discussed totalling amounts and starting with adding the pounds first and then the pence finding that this was an efficient strategy to use.
