Burns Poetry Competition

At Calderwood we currently have a Scottish focus for learning. All clans will participate in a Scottish/Burns Poetry competition in clan. All children will be encouraged to participate in their own way – whether that is filmed, performed to their clan or to their champion on 27th January. The finalists will be put forward to a whole school competition on Friday 3rd February.

Robertson Homes and Age Scotland Writing Competition

Our Primary 3 clans took part in a writing competition organised by housebuilder Robertson Homes. The pupils were asked to write letters to older people who may be feeling lonely this Christmas. The winner of the competition would then have their writing chosen to feature in Age Scotland’s Friendship Service Christmas cards.

We are delighted to announce that a Primary 3 pupil from Calderwood Primary School was selected for his design to feature on the card. He showed compassion, laughter and joy through his letter. We know it will spread Christmas cheer to those who need it this year. Well done!

Ben Lomond’s Christmas Festivities

The Bens have been incredibly busy with our festive celebrations!

We spent the afternoon making Christmas crafts for our friends and family: we made woolly hats, cards, jewellery, coasters and tiles.

We made our own ‘Aztec’ hot chocolate as part of our IDL topic on Ancient Civilisations. It was pure 100% dark chocolate powder with no sugar or milk. Most of us thought it was ‘bitter’, ‘disgusting’ and ‘terrible’, however a few people thought it was ‘amazing!’

We also celebrated our Christmas lunch together – the food was yummy and we were also amazing helpers – helping to serve the younger pupils!

We also enjoyed our Christmas party for which we planned the games, activities and playlist! We had a best dancer competition, best singer competition, hula hoop pass-the-parcel, corners, musical chairs and of course… party food!!

Our Christmas Around the World play was also one on Ben Lomond’s highlights! We chose the topic, wrote the script, designed the set, costumes and chose our song. It was directed and lead by the pupils and was a huge success – check out our vid here! https://sway.office.com/gm4BEjrfvmuvnQBw?ref=Link

It’s been an incredible year and we thank you for all your continued support.

Next term will be VERY exciting as we begin to think about leaving our Calderwood P7 Legacy behind.

For now, relax & enjoy the break!

Thistle at Christmas!

We have had such an exciting time at the end of Term 2. We had our final rounders competition against the children of Bramble where we use all our skills and teamwork that we have been developing to secure a victory.

We had also decided we wanted to raise some money for those more vulnerable at this time of year. In small teams we chose a charity that was important to us, researched a recipe and worked to a budget. We then came together in the STEM studio to make our bakes, created adverts through our persuasive writing and sold them to primary 4 and 5 children. We were delighted by our success and raised a joint total of £74.06 for Sick Kids, Cancer Research UK and Children in Need.

Finally, we had a tremendous time on Tuesday at our Christmas party with dancing, games, prizes, snacks! Merry Christmas everyone!!

Bramble Clan Connects: 02.12.22

On Friday 2nd December, Bramble Clan presented their own connects all about ‘The Bramble Brain Lab.’ The pupils created a fantastic performance sharing their knowledge of the different parts of the brain, what our brain helps our bodies do and how our brain can grow so we can learn new things. Bramble presented an incredible performance that took into account costumes, acting and music! Well done Bramble Clan!

Bluebell Clan Connects- 09.12.22

On Friday 9th December, Bluebell presented their own clan connects all about the narrative writing they had been learning about in their clan. Bluebell acted out the story of Cinderella and then shared how they took the plot of this story to recreate their own versions. The pupils shared the different writing techniques they had learned so they could create their own books. We were so impressed by their fantastic acting, singing and understanding of stories. The pupils finished their connects with an amazing song that inspired the audience that life really is your own story. Well done Bluebell Clan!

Nativity Competition Winners

Our clans took part in a Nativity competition hosted by our Primary 1 clans. Well done to both pupils whose designs have been picked to be the background to the Nativity set. We can’t wait to see your artwork in the performance. We know our Primary 1 clans will love it!

Be an Author Competition

As part of our Book Week Scotland Celebrations, Calderwood took part in a ‘Be an Author Competition.’ This involved all pupils writing a narrative story about a quest or adventure. Each clan nominated a winner for their clan that would go through the final. All entries for the final were judged by an author called Linda Erskine. Well done to all of our clan finalists!

A massive congratulations to our P1-3 winner, P4-5 winner and P6-7 winner. All pupils have received a voucher to spend at Waterstones. Enjoy your celebrations! We are all so proud of your achievement!
