Aladdin 2024

This week Primary 5 performed our first ever Calderwood show, Aladdin to the Calderwood Community. The audience were blown away with their performing and back stage skills. What a journey and achievement this has been for our clans. We are so proud of our superstars!

We captured the talented cast and crew in their fabulous costumes. You can view these photographs via the link below.

Volunteers required – Home-Start West Lothian

Home-Start are looking to recruit some new volunteers to support families in West Lothian
Home-Start is a charity which provides support to families with at least one child under five.
Volunteers would be matched with one family at a time, for a period of around 9 – 12 months. We are looking for volunteers who have a spare couple of hours a week. This could be a member of staff, a student, a parent, carer or Grandparent or just anyone who has a bit of spare to time and wants to help. The volunteer does not have to be a parent themselves and some of our families are just looking for someone to talk to or someone to give them company. Click on the link to find out a bit more about Home-Start and register your interest with us – https://www.home-start.org.uk/find-out-more-about-volunteering-for-home-start We are also looking for volunteers to help at family group sessions to interact with
Each volunteer will be required to complete a training course to enable them to support a family effectively. The short training course will be partly through elearning at their own pace and also through 4 face-to-face sessions (two and a half hour sessions). All expenses for volunteering will be provided. Please contact lisac@homestartwl.org.uk if you would like more information
Kind Regards

Lego Plea

Dear parents/carers,

As part of our School Improvement Plan, the Health and Wellbeing champs have been looking at creating clan Health and Wellbeing boxes.  We are issuing a plea for donations of unwanted Lego that we will put in to these boxes.  If you have any Lego at home that does not get used, even kits with missing pieces, we would be so grateful if you would hand this in to the office by Wednesday 20th March.

Thank you so much.

Participatory Budget – Thistle and Schiehallion as Agents of Change

Thistle and Schiehallion have been leading a whole school and wider community project about how to spend the Participatory Budget for our school and the overall cost of the school day.

When gathering our data, we needed to ensure that the whole school and our wider community had their say. The children decided they wanted to do this by hosting a whole-school event where pupils gathered in our Discovery Den to learn about the Cost of the School day and Participatory Budget, through fun and engaging activities. This was organised, run, designed and created by members of Thistle and Schiehallion Clans.

Schiehallion Clan also created, produced and edited their own Clan Calderwood Connects to teach families and our community about Poverty in Scotland, the Cost of the School Day, the History of Schooling and the History of Money. After their Clan Calderwood Connects we asked people who had watched the Clan Connects to have a say in our anonymous Survey. Thistle and Schiehallion Clan supported each other to collect data after the Calderwood Connects from our Community through this Survey. If you want to support us, you can Click here to find out a little more about how you can use your views to help!

Watercolour Wonder in Thistle and Schiehallion

In Schiehallion and Thistle Clan we have been exploring art techniques associated with watercolour. We explored nine separate techniques which are often used to create paintings when using watercolour; making our own reference sheet to use for future pieces of artwork. Following this, we analysed pieces of artwork created by unknown artists to identify the techniques they had used and the impact this had on the overall piece.

We have drafted a final watercolour painting and are looking forward to completing our final piece soon!
