Edinburgh Clan Update: A Trip to Zombieville!

This term in Edinburgh Clan we will be listening to the exciting podcast Once Upon a Time in Zombieville as part of our Literacy learning.

The story has already sparked lots of discussion, prediction and imagination, helping us to develop our talking and listening skills. Through paired and group discussions pupils have been sharing their ideas, explaining their thinking and listening carefully to the opinions of others.

We have also been using the story to support our writing. Our focus has been on creating extended sentences by adding more detail and descriptive language into our written answers. The children have been working hard to make their writing more interesting for the reader while ensuring that their sentences make sense and flow smoothly.

As part of this learning, we are paying close attention to using punctuation correctly, including capital letters, full stops, commas and other punctuation marks where appropriate. This helps us communicate our ideas clearly and effectively.

We are looking forward to discovering what happens next in Zombieville and using the story as inspiration for further talking, listening and writing activities in the weeks ahead. Be sure to ask your child about the characters and events in the story so far…

Thank you for your continued support.

๐Ÿ”ข Maths Week Scotland in Edinburgh Clan!

Edinburgh Clan had a fantastic time celebrating Maths Week Scotland! We have been very busy developing our numeracy skills, challenging ourselves and most importantly, having lots of fun with maths…

Throughout the week, we explored place value and learned lots of new mathematical vocabulary. We practised partitioning numbers, identifying greater than and less than and developed our understanding of multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1,000. We worked hard to explain our thinking and use our new mathematical language confidently.

We also took part in the Maths Week Scotland Sumdog competition, which was a big hit! Everyone enjoyed logging on, answering questions and trying their best to earn points for our class. ๐ŸŽฎ๐ŸŒŸ

However, our favourite part of Maths Week Scotland had to be our active maths games. We loved getting up, moving around and working together while practising our maths skills. It was a great reminder that maths doesn’t always have to happen sitting at a desk.

In fact, we enjoyed our quick-fire maths activities so much that we have now introduced Daily 10 into our classroom routine. The class are really enjoying the challenge and it gives us a fun opportunity to keep practising place value, multiplication, division and other important number skills every day.

What a brilliant week of learning, teamwork and mathematical fun.

Well done, Edinburgh Clan! ๐ŸŒŸ

Edinburgh Clan Class Charter

The pupils of Edinburgh Clan have been busy creating our very own Class Charter. Using the book Our Class is a Family as inspiration, we reflected on how we can build a positive classroom where everyone feels welcomed, valued, and supported. The story encouraged us to think about the important role each person plays in making our clan a happy and successful place to learn.

As part of this learning, we explored the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and discussed how these rights connect to our daily lives in school. We recognised that every child deserves to feel safe, respected, included and heard. Together, we agreed on a set of shared responsibilities that will help us create a classroom where everyone can thrive and where our rights are protected throughout the year.

To bring our charter to life, we linked it to our class theme of space. Each pupil designed their own astronaut and added it to our Edinburgh Clan galaxy. Together, we have created a vibrant display that celebrates our individuality while showing that we are all part of the same crew. Just like astronauts rely on one another during a mission, we know that kindness, teamwork, and respect help us to reach our goals.

Our Class Charter will guide us throughout the year as we explore new learning, overcome challenges and achieve great things together. It reminds us that every member of our crew is important, every voice matters,ย and that we can reach for the stars when we support one another…

In Edinburgh Clan, we are all part of the same mission and together there are no limits to what we can achieve! ๐Ÿš€๐ŸŒโญ ย  ย
