Booktastic Week in Burns Clan

This week in Burns clan we have lots of fun celebrating Scottish Book week. At the start of the week we made our way down to the P2 clans to read them a story. We also created our own book covers based on our favourite books and clan reading books. Later in the week we participated in a book quiz and scored 10/10! In addition, we had the opportunity to create our own quiz and Kahoots all about books to our peers. We have had so much fun celebrating Scottish book week and even found some new favourite books

Burns

We have had a great start back from the October break in Burn’s clan. We have been developing our public speaking skills, as we get ready for our clan assembly. We have also started a new topic in math’s, we have been exploring different strategies to help us develop our addition and subtraction. We have engaged in fun games and challenges to enhance our understanding of these strategies. In writing this week we did a narrative cold piece. This means we had no help from our clan champion, however we all did fantastic and met lots of our writing targets. We played music and used visuals to give us some inspiration for our writing piece which was really fun.

Maths Madness in Burns

This Week in burns we have been exploring estimation. We began by exploring what estimation is, before testing our knowledge using Esti-mystery. Esti – mystery shows an image and clues and you have to estimate what the number is using the clues given. We loved Esti- mystery and had so much fun doing them, we decided to create our own. Once they were complete, we set our peers the challenge of working them out.

In addition to Esti- mystery we estimated the distance of things in our clan. We estimated how many jumps it would take us to get along the corridor before checking how accurate our estimation was.

Burns clan – Descriptive Writing

In Burns clan we identified what we already know about descriptive writing, as we completed our cold assessment. A cold assessment means we had no help from our champion and everything we wrote about was based on all our amazing and creative knowledge from previous learning. Our topic was ‘all about me’ and we used a variety of adverbs, nouns and adjectives to create fantastic pieces of writing.

On Thursday we created a descriptive piece of art work to match our writing, we included lots of interesting and unique descriptive things about ourselves.

Later in the week, we explored what adjectives, adverbs and nouns are as we identified them in a text using highlighters, we also created beautiful posters for our wall to remind us of their definitions.

Burns Clan

Burns Clan have had lots of fun learning new things about their clan mates and new champion.
We have discussed our goals and ambitions for the year ahead and what we and our champion can do to support us in achieving these. We created a time capsule to record these and will open it up at the end of the year to see how far we have come. We also created a clan charter and discussed the ways we can ensure everyone feels safe, secure, and respected in our clan.
In week 2, we practiced our writing and public speaking skills as we wrote and shared our speeches for pupil council. We demonstrated our respect for our clan mates as we listened carefully and showed encouragement as they shared their speeches.
We also learned about the festival Raksha Bandhan, we discussed the meaning of the festival and the importance of it. Our clan mates who participate in the festival also shared the ways they celebrate Raksha Bandhan with their families.
On Friday of week 2, we demonstrated fantastic teamwork as we combined our interests and imagination to build an airbase using Kapla.
