West Lothian P7 Track & Field Championships

P7 Calderwood pupils attended the annual West Lothian Track and Field championships at Craigswood Sport centre. The pupils competed in various events. On the track they competed in the 80m, 600m and 100m by 4 relay race. On the field they competed in the long jump and the shot put. Well done to both the girls and boys teams as they demonstrated excellent athletic abilities and good sportsmanship throughout the day.

Active and Sustainable Travel Sharing Session

Calderwood pupils attended an Active and Sustainable Travel sharing session at West Calder High School. Each of the cluster schools shared the work they have been doing with the AST group. The event was also an opportunity for the young people (and adults) to better understand the process of consultation and change.  It was also an opportunity for the pupils to see other schools in their clusters Place Standards and share what is good and what they could do to improve their local community.  A number of people from different Council departments attended and chatted with the pupils and answered any questions that they had.

P5 Art Showcase

P5 Art Showcase

Well done to all the Primary 5 pupils and teachers for all their hard work in creating an amazing showcase this week. There were three types of Art form on display. These included:

Digital Animation
Pupils have been exploring digital creativity using Adobe Express, where they have experimented with generating AI images, drawing their own animated scenes, and producing short stop‑motion videos. During the session pupils showcased their stop‑motion animations and gave a brief demonstration of how they created them.

Art

For the Art aspect of the showcase the pupils highlighted the following 4 different art styles:

  • Pop Art, Doodle Art, Abstract Art and Still life drawing

The Art was displayed in the hall with the children walking around, explaining to the adults about each different style.

Junk Kouture

Pupils have taken part in an exciting project where creativity meets sustainability! Working collaboratively, they have designed their own outfits inspired by themes such as “under the sea”. From initial sketches to final creations, pupils explored a range of recycled materials and fabrics to bring their ideas to life. Their finished designs were proudly displayed for everyone to enjoy.

Well done to everyone involved and Thank You to all the visitors who came to the Showcase.

Calderwood Glee Team

We are delighted to share the fantastic news that our Stag Squad choir were crowned winners at last night’s Frisson Foundation Glee Challenge. Their victory means they will now advance to the next stage, competing in the regional final at the Usher Hall in May.
Their performance was nothing short of outstanding. From the moment they stepped on stage, their energy, confidence, and joy were unmistakable. The Stag Squad have dedicated themselves wholeheartedly over the past five months, and we could not be prouder of everything they have achieved. The judges praised their “polished and professional” performance, and they truly looked and sounded exceptional.
This achievement is a testament not only to their talent, but to their teamwork, resilience, and passion. We can’t wait to cheer them on as they take to the stage in the regional final. Go Stag Squad!

Calderwood Ski Team – Glencoe Ski Event

Niamh (bluebell clan) took on her first ever race on snow at a school ski event at Glencoe. This was a daunting race for her as not only was it her first time racing on snow but she was representing the school on her own. Added to this Niamh was also bib number 1 meaning she was first out of all the primary aged kids to run the race course. We are delighted to say she over came the challenge and managed to secure third place for the females in P1-4 category. Well done Niamh!
