Food Allergies and Halloween

Allergy UK run a ‘It’s Time To Take Allergy Seriously’ campaign, which includes a focus on the importance of being allergy aware during festivities and celebrations including forthcoming Halloween.
“For the parents of children with food allergies, Halloween especially, can present an extra reason to be frightened. It is estimated that 1 in 12 children are affected by food allergies and a recent poll indicated that nearly 69% of parents believe more awareness is needed of the potential risks of food allergies in children. 52% of respondents would feel more comfortable with their child trick or treating if houses identified as allergy friendly and were more aware.”
To ensure Calderwood is allergy inclusive we have attached a copy of Allergy Uk’s ‘More Treats No Tricks Halloween Guide’. This includes:
  • Recipes
  • Parents guide to stress less Halloween
  • Tips to be an allergy friendly host
  • Allergy safe logo to be displayed at your home (these are available within school also if you don’t have access to a printer)
  • allergy alert cards to send to neighbours or with houses displaying the allergy safe logo  (these are available within school also if you don’t have access to a printer)
  • Treats to avoid and alternatives.
Have a happy and safe Halloween.
Mrs McLaren
