We’ve been learning how to use a dictionary and thesaurus to extend our word knowledge and range. It’s been really good fun! We made thesaurus posters for our wall showing different words that mean similar things, looked up Roman words to find out what they meant and created a glossary for our projects. We’re becoming much faster at using the dictionary by using our knowledge of the alphabet and looking at the second letter in a word as well as the first. We have been working really hard on our spelling every day and have made up lots of new spelling activities to help us to learn our patterns. We have also been looking at rhyme – each table finds lots of words that rhyme throughout the week and Mrs Green makes up a poem using them on Friday. We’ve been using contents and index pages to find information about the Romans and Caledonians in non-fiction books, making our own notes then bringing our knowledge together.
