Yesterday, Primary 7 went to the Risk Factory in Edinburgh. The Risk Factory is a building with lots and lots of different everyday scenarios. There is Main High Street which is a street with a bus, cars and injured people lying on the road. There are also rooms which look like someone’s house; there’s a Livingroom, kitchen, bedroom and a bathroom. We even got to go to the beach and the canal!
In each of these scenarios, we had to identify everyday risks. For example,
“How do you cross the road safely?”
“What would you do if a stranger sat next to you on a bus when there are lots of other seats available?”
“What would you do if your curtains caught fire in your Livingroom?” “Who would you call? What would you say?
We were placed in lots of these types of situations and then observed on how we would react. This was pretty scary, buy in the Risk Factory, these situations were carried out in a safe environment with the aim to teach us how to deal with or avoid risks altogether.
