We’ve not been quiet in Primary 7 since we returned from our Christmas Break. In fact, it has been the opposite.
Our outside area, or ‘Research Pod’ as we like to call it has been gradually cleared of folders and we’re soon going to be adding furniture, bookcases and some casual seating so we can work outside and discuss our reading. We had already drawn plans before Christmas, so this week, in our maths lessons, we took our original designs and began adding them onto the 2D grid on the computer package. To begin with, we had to measure the outside area and work out the actual area in the correct unit of measure. Next, we had to measure the many items and work out their area to ensure that everything fitted into the plans. This was fun, but challenging. For example, if you made a bookcase too large, it wouldn’t fit accurately onto the wall as it would cover radiators. This meant we had to revisit our plans, investigate the layout and then measure out another space to see if the bookcase would fit there. We also had to make sure that items were added into the area in the correct order. We had to work together in teams, discuss our plans and decide which parts of our plans we could use and which ones we could not. Some people in our groups had to negotiate very hard to keep their items in the final plans. We’re going to present our plans to each other next week and have a ‘question and answer’ session. Here’s a sneak preview of some of our plans.
We’ve been extremely busy preparing our Burns Supper. We have been designing our invitations, menu and programme of events on our computers. We’ve gone for a tartan theme, in keeping with Burns night. We have been rehearsing a few Scottish songs, some poetry and Scottish dances. More will be revealed on Thursday evening from 6.30pm…….with a few extra surprises thrown in. Please remember to return your invitation – this allows access for one pupil and one parent, plus it lets us begin to prepare a seating plan for the evening. We look forward to seeing you this Thursday all dressed in tartan for a special evening.
