We’ve been very busy developing skills across the curriculum this week and have enjoyed lots of collaborative learning. Our woodland topic was launched and the children have already brought in lots of stories and information books to extend our learning. Natural treasures such as lichen, fir cones, conkers and autumn leaves from woodland walks have been added to our interest tables.
In our technology and expressive arts lesson, we created uniquely individual collage owls to add to our woodland display. Tearing, folding and overlapping paper feathers was quite tricky but we persevered. Adding feet and eyes was fun, as our owls took on their own identity and each one has a different expression! We also used sponge painting to give texture and tone to trees for our owls to perch on.
Our maths challenge this week was great fun. We used ropes to create 2D shapes and had to explain what we knew about the properties of each shape, to convince Mrs Clegg and Mrs Gaspar that we had made a circle, rectangle, triangle and square!
In RME, we listened to the story of the Good Samaritan. We explored the story through drama, acting out each scene and discussing the attitudes and behaviour of characters in the story. We had a very thoughtful discussion about caring for others and how this can be shown in the things we do and say, everyday in our school and home communities.
Have a lovely weekend and enjoy reading our next update !
