This week we have discussed bullying behavior and what the term actually means. We talked about how we can deal with difficult situations and ways to resolve them. We identified people who can help us when we are physically or emotionally hurt.
We listened to a story, “Carla’s Sandwich”, by the author Debbie Herman. The message in the story was that everyone has the right to make individual choices and that we should treat others as we would want to be treated ourselves. This was also the theme of a presentation by Darren Philips, who showed us how many religions around the world embrace this as a central rule in their faiths. During our discussions we shared ideas about conflict resolution:
“Even if someone is horrible to us, it doesn’t mean we have to be horrible back.”
“Two wrongs don’t make a right.”
“We need to find a way of sorting out the problem.”
“We can try telling the other person how their behaviour is making us feel.”
“It’s ok to be different.”
“We should tell an adult who can help us deal with the problem.”
We are very proud to have contributed to Children in Need today, helping others less fortunate than ourselves, who are facing difficult situations.
Next week will be an exciting time as we take part in a dance workshop celebrating Roald Dahl and a drama workshop hosted by the Helen O’Grady drama group!
