As part of this week’s health week, we walked up to the Wilderness wood with Eilidh from Woodland Trust. The activity which we were doing was called Woodland Survivor. The aim was to use natural materials to build a waterproof den. We split up into smaller groups to decide where we would build each of our dens. Then we looked around the woods for suitable sticks and ferns to use. Next of all we worked as a team to build the skeleton of our den. Finally we covered the exterior with the ferns and dry leaves that we had collected. We tested whether our dens were waterproof by pouring water over them while we were inside! Some of our dens were more successful than others and this meant that some of us got rather wet!
On Wednesday afternoon Tracy, from the Larder kitchen, came to work with us. Tracy laid out some different foods and equipment at three stations that we were going to work at. At the first station we chose our own ingredients to make fruit and vegetable smoothies. Some of us were surprised to find that, despite being green, the smoothies tasted awesome! At the second station we made our own sushi sandwich wraps. We rolled a piece of bread to make it thinner, cut off the crusts, added our fillings and wrapped it all up together. At the final station we made fruit kebabs. We added different fruits to our skewers to make rainbow kebabs.
