Welcome to Primary 7

Welcome back to school

Primary 7 is a bit odd.  On the one hand, we now have much more responsibility and we’re viewed as role models for everyone in the school to look up to and follow.  On the other hand, we’ve been doing ‘Death by Maths’.  No, it’s not boring, boring maths, until we’re bored to death, but we’ve had to work in groups to answer lots of different mathematical problems.  When we find out an answer, it leads us onto more clues until we find out ‘Who‘, the murderer is, ‘Who‘ the victim was, ‘Where‘ the murder to took place, ‘When‘, the murder occurred and, finally, ‘Why‘ did it all happen.  We have also been doing maths assessments as this will allow Mr Hunter to identify those areas which we are strong in and those areas which we may need some additional support with.

We’ve also been working on setting the scene in our writing.  We’ve been investigating how authors can create pace and mood through their choice of words and their sentence structure.  Mr Hunter has also given us Learning Wheels.  These wheels look like a dart board, but after every piece of written work, we identify and, then, select 2-3 areas which we have successfully achieved and colour each segment green.  This lets us know which areas we are achieving and which areas we need to develop.  Mr Hunter says this being ‘self reflective’ and it’s a very important part of our learning.

Next week, we’re going to be doing a character study.  This will link in with our writing when we set the scene.  Mr Hunter says he has a few surprises up his sleeve too, but has promised no more jokes.
