A Week in the Life of Primary 4

This week, in Primary 4, we have been doing a variety of things.  Here are some of our highlights.

In PE, we have been getting taster sessions of handball so we are prepared for our Handball Festival next week.  It’s quite a fast game and we have to keep on the move, looking for the ball and making passes.

We also had a visit from Lee, an inspector from the SPCA.  The SPCA is short for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.  We were told how to deal with animals that were in distress – we should not approach these animals, but get an adult to call the SPCA who would come out and deal with the incident.  Lee told us lots of stories about her experiences and all the different animals she has been called out to deal with – swans, badgers, seals, foxes and even large snakes which should live in the Amazon rainforest!  We also got to try some of the equipment Lee uses, as well as her specialist clothing.  This was fun and really interesting.

In Music, we have been continuing working with Mrs Poynter.  This week, we have been looking at ‘stick notation’.  Stick Notation lets us sight read the rhythmic elements which make up a four beat pattern.  We even made up our own stick notation and used our class mates as these different rhythmic patterns.
