This week, in class, we’ve been looking at the work of Robert Burns and have listened to some of his poetry. As Burns wrote about everyday life in Scotland, we’ve also chosen everyday objects to write about too. Some of our ideas are: ‘A wee Scottie Dug’, ‘Ma Heilan Coo’, ‘Chookies’ (chickens),’Irn Bru’, ‘Ma wee Beastie’ and ‘The Smiler’.
Firstly, we picked a topic and jotted down some key words. Next, we wrote a simple poem in English. Then, we ‘converted’ some of our words into Scots to give a Burns feel to it. Once we have finished our poems, we’re going to make it into a class book.
We’re also working on a large picture of Burns – with a twist. We’ve taken the idea of the artist Gustav Klimt who worked in blocks and have applied this technique to a portrait of Robert Burns. We’re still in the early stages but watch this space.
