Over the last two weeks, we have been learning lots of new things.  We went to the Museum on the Mound and looked at ‘all things money.’  We found out that not so long ago, people used shells, tea and wool as forms of money.  Size was also important – the bigger the object, the more it was worth.  We soon realised that walking about with a tea brick the size of a large book might be worth a lot of money, but it was difficult to carry and even more difficult to spend part – especially if you only wanted to spend part of it!

We also made our own money – coins from 12th century Scotland – which fits in with our Wars of Independence topic.  We  investigated our modern money and were able to identify the many different security features on our £5, £10 and £20 notes.  We designed and created our own notes, complete with our own security features – some which you can see and some which are invisible to the eye.
