P3/4 Farm to Fork

P3/4 went to Tesco on Thursday. We didn’t go to do our shopping though. We actually went to learn more about where our food comes from. We got to spend time in 5 different departments and do some tasks at each one. In the bakery we got to see how they make bread. We also got to make our own little bread rolls which were then delivered to the school at the end of the day! We went behind the scenes to see where they store all the food before it goes on the shelves. We got to go inside the massive fridge and freezer too. The freezer was -21C which was very cold! We went to the cheese counter. We got to try different cheese. Even if we didn’t think we liked cheese we all tasted at least one. In the fruit and veg department we learnt about how different fruit and vegetables grow. We had to find a rainbow of fruit and vegetables. We got try lots of different fruit including strawberries, kiwi, pineapple, mango and sharon fruit. We all tried at least one new fruit we had never eaten before. The last department was the fishmongers. Here we got to learn about different fish and shellfish which we can eat. We got to hold them and see what they felt like.

We had a great day!

Weekend at Dalguise for P6 and P5

Boys and girls from P5 and P6 enjoyed a busy weekend at Dalguise Camp.

We were lucky to have some good weather to enjoy all the activities like den building, raft building abseiling, archery, zip slide, trapeze and playing games.

All the staff were proud of the boys and girls who not only behaved really well but all tried everything, even if they were scared!

Primary 1 PE

Yesterday, Primary 1 had PE outside. We worked on our balancing skills – we practised walking while balancing a bean bag on our head.

We then tried balancing the bean bag on different parts of our bodies.

We found that different beanbags were easier to balance than others. The fuller beanbags and silky beanbags were harder than the floppy beanbags. We then tried throwing our beanbags to see how high we could throw them without dropping them!

Every day, we try to do a ‘Daily Mile’ run. We aren’t quite at a full mile yet, but are getting close!

Remember to stretch afterwards!

P2 sharing the learning assembly

We presented our class assembly about Friendship on Monday. Poppy-Grace said she felt nervous but fortunately it didn’t last long. All the children expressed and communicated their ideas, thoughts and feelings clearly and confidently. Through drama and role play we created imaginary situations to show how to be a good friend. We would like to thank everyone for coming along and supporting us.

We hope you enjoyed it!

The Big Debate

Today pupils in P6/5 and P7 from Greenrigg were joined by pupils in the debating team from Stoneyburn. During the day they were working on different skills linked to debating. In the afternoon a group of pupils participated in a debate for other pupils including pupils in p3/4 who were invited to watch.

The motion of the debate was ‘All children get a free school lunch’. Both sides presented their arguments and then questions were invited from the audience. Overall the proposition won.

The debating team had prepared great speeches to support their side.

P1 Health and Wellbeing

Primary 1 have been learning about the Human Body. We learned the names for some parts of our body and were able to label them on a picture. We then drew around a partner in the playground and labeled the parts of the body on these. We practised matching the pictures to the words of the parts of the body.

P2 outdoor maths

We have been outdoors learning about sharing cubes into groups.  Kayla said ‘it was fun’ and she ‘got it’ at the end of the lesson. All children successfully divided counters in to groups of 2, 3, 4 and 5. Adam said he used the 2 and 5 times tables to help him check the answer. Szymon said all the groups have to have the same amount in. We really enjoyed working outside.
