The Co-operative Education Trust Scotland (CETS) requested that our children make a significant number of badges for them to sell at one of their events at New Lanark on 14th June. Our P4/5 and P6/7 children have been very busy designing and making these badges.

Olympic Science
As part of their Science lesson, P3/4 were given a challenge. They were asked to predict if the person with the longest legs in their group would jump the furthest. Children took part in a blind count and most children predicted that it would be the person with the longest legs that would jump farthest. Children then conducted an investigation to solve this challenge. Each child had their leg measured and recorded. They then took part in a standing long jump event. To keep the test fair, children made sure they started from the same position, they jumped three times and took the best measurement and when measuring they had someone to check their measurements.
They discovered that it didn’t matter the length of a persons legs when it came to jumping but technique was very important.
Travel Safely Update
This morning, the Travel Safely Group looked at the returned questionnaires. We made a bar graph showing the most common ways to travel to school. The children then decided to make leaflets for people who came by car, advising them to park safely and listing ‘Do’s and Don’ts’. Another group of children wanted to remind cyclists of important points to consider when coming to school by bike. We also worked on making a Travel Safely Charter which will be shared at an assembly.
Today at Science Club, we were making Water Beasties. We learned that water has a skin and we could float our Beasties on top. Sometimes they sank though! This was because they were made from paper. Amy’s Beastie had little feet and so she sank. Amy Mcdougall’s Beastie sank because she did the splits. Josie accidently knocked hers over and she ended up taking a bath! Ellie’s Beastie lost two legs! Sam and Brandon’s Beastie’s floated until the paper absorbed too much water. Well done!!!
Today was the last Science Club and all the boys and girls thought it was ‘minted!’
P3/4 Chalk Spelling
P3/4 took advantage of the lovely weather yesterday and took their spelling outside. Children practised writing their spelling words with chalk out on the playground. They drew spelling flowers and pictures to match their spelling words. The children shared their learning, with other classes, during their break.
Sports Relief
Today, all the children walked the same distance as the tallest mountain in South Africa called ‘Mafadi’ which is 3450 metres high. This was to raise funds for Sports Relief. Thank you to all the parents who came along and walked this distance with the children. We raised a total of £83.96 – well done to all!
Science Club: Explosions!
Today in Science Club we were making potions and exploring chemical reactions. First we put vinegar in a jar. Then we added food colouring and stars. We added a squeeze of washing up liquid and finally we added the baking soda. The vinegar and the soda mixed together and made a gas. The gas made washing up liquid bubble up. Our potions erupted like a volcano.
Jake said ” It was minted!”
A big thumbs up for Science Club today. Stay tuned for more updates on Science Club!!!!
South African Storytelling Session
Curriculum Open Afternoon
Today the children took great delight in sharing their learning with their parents. Looking at the theme of ‘South Africa’, the children led their parents around the classroom and school talking about the range of activities and demonstrating their newfound knowledge.
Afterwards a group of pupils from the Pupil Voice Groups made a presentation to share with parents on becoming a UNICEF Rights Respecting School.
We are very proud of our children and they certainly demonstrated being ‘confident individuals, successful learners, effective contributors and responsible citizens’ throughout the course of the afternoon.
