Chinese New Year Celebrations

Greenrigg Primary was visited by Hong Lok last Friday to celebrate the Chinese New Year. The children were given the opportunity to try on the lion costume and also practice keeping a beat with the big drum and the cymbals.

Day for Change

Thank you so much for all your amazing donations for Day for Change. Your spare change has really made a difference and will help children in Syria and the Philippines whose lives have been effected by war and natural disasters. A massive congratulations to the whole school for raising a huge £264.33, although the pupils did bag up the coins so we are probably a few pennies out (this will be a fun trip to the bank)

Big well done from Mrs Monahan, you all represented your school so proudly. You all had great team spirit and played excellently. I was so nervous for you all and loved cheering you on. I was very impressed they way you spoke to the other teams and were making new friends.

P5s food extravaganza with Stoneyburn

We enjoyed a fantastic day  working with all the Primary 5s at Stoneyburn. Adam said he really enjoyed and made some new friends. The boys and girls really enjoyed working with other children. We had a very interesting day all food related. First we tried some porridge with lots of toppings. Next we researched some of  our favourite foods and where they came from in the world. We then enjoyed a trip to Asda where we were shown the bakery and we got to talk about and try lots of fruit and vegetables. Thank you to Sharon in Asda who was wonderful with the children. We then bought some ingredients to take back to school to try cutting up and making our own healthy wraps.

We have been busy learning all about an artist called Yvonne Coomber this week, this is her painting called Dancing Hearts

.Yvonne Coomber Art Dancing Hearts

We spent time looking at her work and discussing the different feelings we could see in the paintings. Then we created our own unique pictures. We used a variety of colours of paint and paint of different textures. First we chose the backdrop colours and blended the paints. then we created the green stems and finally the flowers. We hope you like them. They will be displayed in school for a while before they can go home.

Problem Solving

 103_1756 103_1752

Primary 6/5 were working in partners this week to solve some mathematical problems involving magic squares. We were using the strategy – Guess, Check and Improve to work out the answers to some tricky problems. The rows, columns and diagonals in a magic square must add up to the same number. Try the one below and see if you can figure out the missing numbers!103_1757

P5/4 news

This week we have been enjoying learning about Robert Burns. For our Burns assembly we have been learning to sing the beautiful song ‘My love is like a red, red rose’ the lyrics are below if you would like to have a sing along.

In art this week we have painted pictures of the red rose by learning about the artistic style of Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

The boys and girls have really enjoyed music this week with Mrs Malloch and are looking forward to next week.

Library Van – Andrew visited us this week in class, P5/4 will be going to the library van every second Thursday. Have fun reading at home.

Oh, my love is like a red, red rose
That’s newly sprung in June
Oh, my love is like a melody
That’s sweetly played in tune
As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in love am I
And I will love thee still, my dear,
Till all the seas gang dry.
Till all the seas gang dry, my dear,

‘Til all the seas gang dry my, my dear
And the rocks melt with the sun
And I will love thee still, my dear
While the sands of life shall run
But faretheewell, my only love
Oh, faretheewell a while
And I will come again, my love
Tho’ ‘t were ten thousand mile
Tho’ ‘t were ten thousand mile, my love
Tho’ ‘t were ten thousand mile
And I will come again, my love
Tho’ ‘t were ten thousand mile.
