Animation P4 group

The P3s were on a trip today so the P4 boys had a day of experiments and challenges. One of our activities was animation. First we had to make our own playdough. We made a special kind using cornflour and conditioner which was silky smooth and smelt lovely. We then put this into balloons to make our characters. We planned what we wanted to do in our animation. We knew it had to be lots of little movements and photographs so it was best to keep it simple. Here is Leland’s animation clip.

Building our minibeast hotel – P3/4

Today we got to build our minibeast hotel. During our topic we have been learning about different minibeasts and their habitats. We also collected lots of materials on our trips to Polkemmet Country Park. Even though it was raining we just put on our jackets and got to work. We had to think how to put all the materials in to work for different minibeasts and look nice too. We are looking forwards to seeing who moves in.

P3/4 Minibeast Adventures at Polkemmet.

P3/4 went on an adventure to Polkemmet Country Park. We were taking our learning about minibeasts to a new environment. We had a minibeast hunt to see what minibeasts we could find and compare this to what we were able to find at school. We used a pooter jar to suck up different minibeasts. We had to make sure we only sucked using the green tube! We found lots of minibeasts like worms, millipedes, centipedes, beetles, daddy long legs, flies and woodlice. It was quite a dull and cold day so there were not any bees, ladybirds or butterflies. We got to have our lunch at the playpark and have a play too. After lunch we went to make some art. We had to use materials we could find like leaves, twigs and flowers to make pictures of minibeasts. Miss Tuke was really impressed by our creativity! Before heading back to school we had to collect objects for our minibeast hotel. We are building this in a few weeks but the park was like the best shop for what a minibeast would need! We have lots of twigs, bark, pine cones and other materials.

P3/4 Farm to Fork

P3/4 went to Tesco on Thursday. We didn’t go to do our shopping though. We actually went to learn more about where our food comes from. We got to spend time in 5 different departments and do some tasks at each one. In the bakery we got to see how they make bread. We also got to make our own little bread rolls which were then delivered to the school at the end of the day! We went behind the scenes to see where they store all the food before it goes on the shelves. We got to go inside the massive fridge and freezer too. The freezer was -21C which was very cold! We went to the cheese counter. We got to try different cheese. Even if we didn’t think we liked cheese we all tasted at least one. In the fruit and veg department we learnt about how different fruit and vegetables grow. We had to find a rainbow of fruit and vegetables. We got try lots of different fruit including strawberries, kiwi, pineapple, mango and sharon fruit. We all tried at least one new fruit we had never eaten before. The last department was the fishmongers. Here we got to learn about different fish and shellfish which we can eat. We got to hold them and see what they felt like.

We had a great day!
