RME in P1

Today, we learned about the Good Samaritan. We learned that a ‘Good Samaritan’ is someone who is kind and unselfish towards others. We thought about different ways we could do this.

Jacob thinks we could be Good Samaritans by helping people who are injured. Zander told us that he helped his friend in the playground when he fell over.

James thought we could be a Good Samaritan by giving people money, so we discussed how we can do this (by donating to charity).

Emily thinks we can be a Good Samaritan by helping out at home.

Our target for the next week is to make sure we are a Good Samaritan at least once a day.

Science week P1 – Day 4

Thank you to all the parents who came to our Open Morning today! We hope you enjoyed finding out what we have learned this week and enjoyed doing some space activities with us.

Science week in P1 – Day 3

Today we learned lots of facts about the sun. We already knew that the sun is a star, and today we learned that stars are big burning balls of gas! We learned that the sun is the biggest thing in our solar system and looks so big because it is much closer to Earth than other stars. We learned that you could fit Earth inside the sun one million times!

We also learned a bit more about the other planets in our solar system. We looked at the order of the planets, their names, size and colour. We enjoyed listening to some solar system songs on YouTube! We then painted the planets for our walk display.

We are looking forward to showing and telling you everything we have learned tomorrow morning at the open morning!

Science week P1 – Day 2

What a wonderful day we have had!

This morning, Cosmos Planetarium visited the school. We had an amazing morning exploring the sun, moon and stars. We were taken on a journey into space, landed on the moon and looked at what space travel might look like in the future. We also took part in a rocket launch with Tim Peake! It was very exciting.

We then made some of our own rockets with our table partners, using the junk that was sent in from home (thank you to those who sent in junk!). We made lots of interesting rockets with lots of detail! We can’t wait for you to see them on Thursday at the open morning!

After break, we did some writing and made our own Space Passports, in case we ever need to go into space.

We enjoyed some time in the shared area today, making rockets with the construction blocks and pretending we were on a space mission on the climbing frame. We enjoyed reading some books about space and drew some pictures about what we learned.

After lunch, we learned about constellations. James knew that these are groups of stars that make a pattern or picture. We looked at some of the constellations in our sky and then made our own, which you can see on Thursday too!

What a great day!
