103_1801103_1804

The upper school classes were lucky enough to receive a visit today from Rong Rong MacLeod. Rong Rong was in to teach us all about Chinese New Year and Chinese culture.  We got to make Chinese New Year cards, money envelopes, calendars and Chinese lanterns. Rong Rong also played the Pipa for us and we performed a lantern dance! Thank you Rong Rong for a lovely day!

Problem Solving

 103_1756 103_1752

Primary 6/5 were working in partners this week to solve some mathematical problems involving magic squares. We were using the strategy – Guess, Check and Improve to work out the answers to some tricky problems. The rows, columns and diagonals in a magic square must add up to the same number. Try the one below and see if you can figure out the missing numbers!103_1757

Game On Scotland Plaque

The Sports Committee were proud to accept a Game on Scotland plaque from our Active School Coordinator Ben Boatman. Mr Boatman nominated Greenrigg for the award for our continuing commitment to developing the legacy of the Commonwealth Games. We are now one of over 350 organisations worldwide who are entitled to display the prestigious plaque.

Choir days out

The Choir have been out and about raising money. We visited Harthill Senior Citizen Centre last Thursday where we spread some Christmas cheer. We would like to thank them for their generous donation and presents for the children. Yesterday, we made our annual visit to Tesco. We received a warm reception and would like to thank Tesco once again for supporting the school. We would also like to thank all the friends and family who came along to support the children.

Christmas Fair Preparations

If you can smell a wonderful aroma in the upper school this afternoon it will be coming from Primary 6/5. We have been busy preparing some non-alcoholic mulled wine for the Christmas fair. We will be giving out cups of mulled wine outside from 12.45pm on Friday while the choir are singing so come early to give it a try. If you would like to try making your own at home you will find the recipe here http://www.onetoonemidwives.org/recipes/christmas-fruit-punch-non-alcoholic-mulled-wine
