Yesterday we went orienteering at Polkemmet country park. P5 from Miss Parks class came too.
First we had a picnic in the park as it was a nice sunny day then had some time to play.
We met Hannah, a park ranger, who told use what orienteering was.
“Orienteering is when you read maos and have to find letters and numbers ” – Jaxon
“Its a bit like a giant treasure hunt” – Lewis.
We split into teams had to follow a route on a map using red and green markers. It was quite easy to follow.
Then Hannah showed us how to use a compass and read an OS map.
“The red arrow on a compass always shows North” – Ross
” All maps have arrows to show North” – Lucy
Once we could read the map we were sent off around the park to find our markers and record on our map.
We had a fab time and would love to go back.
Glad you enjoyed the orienteering P5/4. Hope you get the chance to spend time in the forest over the holidays:) Mrs Gibson
