P2g news

We are delighted that we have 6 pupils in the Golden Club before Christmas. Well done to Robyn, Lucy, Daniel, Sophie, Ava and Kelsey. We hope you enjoy the Golden Club event next week. We also have lots of people on step 3 and 4 so they will hopefully make it to the next Golden Club event.

This week we have been finishing off our Senses topic. We learned about taste and did some taste testing. Most of us didn’t enjoy tasting the lemon juice and the salt water! Mrs Jamieson used food colouring to paint our tongues and we were able to see our taste buds. We liked having green and blue tongues! Mrs Stewart also came in to show us some sign language and we learned to say some words using sign language including hello, please, thank you and goodbye.

Another highlight from this week was Christmas lunch on Wednesday. We enjoyed lunch with our friends and Mrs Gallagher and loved seeing the teachers in their Christmas jumpers.

Unfortunately our visit to the library was cancelled due to the bad weather but we did get a chance to have a sneaky peak at the P1 nativity performance and we thought they did a great job.

Next week we are looking forward to going to see the pantomime on Thursday.

Busy busy week for 6M!

This week we have been busy practising for our class assembly 🙂 It is on Friday and we hope you can make it! We chose two of our favourite Christmas songs ever to sing! 🙂 We had a wonderful Wednesday afternoon….it was our Christmas party and we played loads of party games and enjoyed our party food.  Have a look at our pictures!  We have also been busy practising songs for the Church Service.  We have been trying hard to practise our long multiplication sums in maths and we are finding it a bit tricky!

Dragons Den! By P4g

Last week Mr Welsh and Mrs Spence visited our class as Dragons for our Dragons Den competition! We were challenged to make a new invention to pitch to them for their investment. The inventions included a ‘shoodie’ (t-shirt and a hoodie combined), fly zapper 3000, doganator to spray away dog poo and lots more. Here is what we thought:

– It was fun! Geo

– It was rather scary pitching to the Head Teacher. Isla

– The inventions were funny and clever. Kiera B

– I would buy the Party popper pooper scooper. Jessie

– I would like to buy the fly zapper 3000. Ramsay

We also made £110 on our P4 Christmas Enterprise stall at the Christmas Fayre! Thank you to everyone who bought something.

This week we have been enjoying practising the songs for the Christmas Church Service, learning how to solve problems using the strategy ‘Produce a List’ and learning how to read scripts including stage directions (some of us read them out by accident!)

Only 11 school days left!

This week I enjoyed

This week I enjoyed…

Big Start:

Megan – I liked Big Start this morning making our Christmas trees!

Rowan – I enjoyed decorating the Christmas tree in my own style.

Cole – I liked putting baubles on the tree. It is really fun decorating our own Christmas trees.

Alanna – I liked decorating the tree.

Brooklyn – We are going to add all our trees together and make a huge class Christmas tree on the wall!

Maths:

Ty – I liked doing Maths. Maths is good because I found it easy and I really want to move up a level!

Tom – I am excited because I’d like to move up a level too!

Magnetic Games:

Kirsten – I liked creating a magnetic game. It was lots of fun!

Harvey – Our game is called ‘Fishes in the net’ and I liked making the fishes and it was fun making them.

Samantha – Caitlin and I’s game was called ‘Fish collector’ and whoever can collect the most fish in 30 seconds wins!

Rhia – Me and Kirsten’s game is called ‘Fishy Fun’ and if you get the most fish you win.

Jack – Me and Rory’s game is called ‘Temple Run 2’ and to win you have to race to the cave and you only get 5 seconds.

Jennie – Me and Ty’s game is called ‘Super Racers’ and the first one to get to the magnet wins!

Porridge and Monsters in 5m!

This week we found out that Loch Ness was formed by a huge glacier. We looked at how glaciers have changed the landscape around them by eroding rocks and transporting them within the glacier. When a glacier melts these rocks are deposited to create new hills and mountains.

In our Chocolate Geology lesson we used porridge to create our own glacier. We drew stripes on the porridge with chocolate sauce and watched carefully as it slid slowly down a half pipe. We noticed that the sauce was forming a V shape. This was because our glacier was travelling more quickly in the middle. Aaron worked out that this was happening because the sides were slowing down the glacier. Well done, Aaron!

We were wondering what Nessie thought of all that ice!

Hope you enjoy this little sample of our animations:

…using the ‘Animate It’ app because it was like making a movie. It was really good fun.  Ali

Primary 1 Visit the Library

Today all of Primary 1 visited Bathgate Library.  When we got there we listened to the 3 stories which are shortlisted for the Scottish Book Trust book awards. There was Jumblebum, Paper Dolls and What’s the Time Mr Wolf.  Everyone did really well walking there and back and our listening skills were superb.

After hearing the stories we voted for which was our favourite.  Jumblebum came out on top and Jason said he liked the story because it reminded him of his room which can also be a mess.  Thank you to the library for asking us to visit and to everyone that helped us today.

Sharing our learning in P3/2

This term some of the children in P3/2 have been working independently on their own projects based on The Gruffalo Story. These projects have included arts and crafts activities, language activities and of course reading activities. As part of the 5 challenges that go with this project, pupils have been given the task of sharing their learning to their class members. Pupils have been reading the story to their classmates, teaching them about the characters and even setting them a small challenge EG completing a sequencing activity and finishing the pupils own Gruffalo jigsaws. Well done to all pupils who took part and well done to those pupils who completed their friends challenge. The winner will be announced in class this week!

Class 2

Class 2 have been learning about St Andrew
Jamie – 30th of November is St Andrew’s Day. I wrote a fantastic story about St Andrew
Dylan – St Andrew’s Day is on Saturday.
Saturday is also Balbardie Fayre. We have made posters to give people information about the fayre.
On Monday Class 1, 2 and 3 are going to The Variety Party in Edinburgh.
Cody – I’m ready to go to the Variety Party.
Aiden – I can’t wait to go to the party.
Aiden had a good piece of advice.
Do your advent calendar, start on Sunday the 1st December.
Liam is looking forward to The Wizard of Oz

Hello from P1b

We have been busy making items to sell at the Christmas fayre.  We decorated tea light holders by painting them, making patterns with glitter glue and sticking on gems.  We also made star Christmas tree decorations with coloured lolly pop sticks.  We decorated them with gems and sparkly glitter. They all look beautiful!  Hope you can come along tomorrow!

This week some of us have been exploring somersault sums.  Euan explained that 2+3 is the same as 3 + 2.  We really enjoyed going on a treasure hunt to find the matching somersault sum and making up our own somersault sums.

We would like to remind parents/carers that you are invited to come along to our shared start on Wednesday morning between 8:55-9:30am.  We will be completing some nice Chritmas crafts!

 Have a nice weekend,

P1b

Health and Wellbeing

Fruit Smoothies!

On Tuesday we made a fruit smoothie.  We each chose a fruit to add to the smoothie and chopped it up into small pieces.  The children in class 1 are great at preparing food and understand how important it is to wash our hands before touching food.   Miss Barrie is very pleased that the children in class 1 have been trying hard with their cutlery skills.

We used kiwi, apple, pear, grapes, watermelon and orange juice to make our smoothie.  We took turns to add the ingredients and press the button on the blender.   Some of us liked the taste of the smoothie, and some of us didn’t.  Cameron and Miss Barrie loved the smoothie!   There was some fruit smoothie left over for Cameorn’s mum to taste but Cameron loved it so much that he drank it himself!

This week for Home Learning, we have to list or draw the ingredients that we would use to make our own fruit smoothie.  We will share our smoothie ideas with our classmates and maybe get to create some more smoothies in class 1!

At snack time, we have been talking about our favourite fruits and learning that fruit and vegetables are good for our bodies.

Dance Club

During Tuesday playtime, some of us chose to go to Dance Club.  The girls in P5 helped to teach us some new moves.  We especially enjoyed how technology was used to help us learn.  The dance video was projected onto the wall in the gym hall.  This made it easier for us to see and copy the moves.  Miss Barrie and Mrs Stewart enjoyed joining in too.  Maybe we will try some of our new dance moves at the Christmas party!

Swimming

Miss Barrie, Miss Cameron and Miss Robertson are so proud of everyone in swimming group 1.   Everyone has been trying very hard with dressing independently.  This week the adults were so impressed, as everyone participated in the big pool swimming lesson.   Some of us felt a little nervous at first as our feet couldn’t touch the floor, but after a while everyone was too busy having fun to notice!

A Very Special Visitor!

On Wednesday, we had a very special visit, from a very special baby!  Jayden’s little brother came to visit class 1.  We were so excited to hear that Baby Jenson was coming to class 1.  Jayden was great at introducing his friends and family.

We know how to care for babies so we made sure to use quiet whispering voices as he was fast asleep, and we didn’t want to wake him up.  We enjoyed looking at Baby Jenson’s tiny face.  Lewis and Cameron thought that he looked just like his big brother!

‘His face is just like his face!’  Cameron

We enjoyed touching his soft blanket.  We know that babies like soft things.  We sang Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Lewis even read his favourite story to baby Jenson.  We asked lots of great questions.

‘Does baby Jenson have a buggy?’ Cameron

Miss Cameron and Miss Barrie feel very proud, as the children in class 1 are always very well mannered, and make visitors feel very welcome.

Have a nice weekend and remember to read over your Christmas Party story.

P2e

The floor is covered in sequins and glitter so it must be Christmas Fayre time! We have been busy making Christmas tree decorations to sell on Saturday. We also made posters to advertise what we are selling and we talked about how to make the posters more exciting and encourage people to come over to our stall.

In our topic we have been learning about the sense of smell. We know that the nose sends messages to the brain about different smells and the brain remembers lots of different smells. Our noses also help to keep us safe. They can can smell signs of danger, for example, smoke from a fire.  We know that sometimes we can’t smell very well when we have a cold. We held our noses and tasted some different flavours of crisps to see if they tasted different. We definitely need our nose to help us taste too! Also, we had to guess different things by their smell. Some didn’t smell very nice. We are looking forward to finding out if our guesses were right!

We have been learning how to draw faces. We were looking carefully at our faces to see where the different features sit on our face. We found this quite tricky but we are getting better at sketching. We will let you see them once we are finished.

In writing we have been writing thank you letters to our drumming teacher Daniel. We have our last drumming class on Wednesday. We have really enjoyed using the drums and we are glad Miss Elliot has been learning how to teach us to play them.

What we think:

Keira: I enjoyed guessing the smells.

Grace: I liked learning how to draw a face.

Evie: I liked writing the thank you letters to Daniel.

Awards:

Class Dojo: Evie

Table of the Week: Whizz Kids

Have a good weekend!

P4b

This has been a challenging but fun week in P4b.

In maths we were learning about capacity; how much something can hold. We had great fun measuring out and working out if different containers held about a litre, less than a litre or more than a liitre. We did not spill any water!

We have started looking at how plays are structured and used highlighters to pick out different parts of a play.

In French we held a carousel and every body spoke French! We had to include saying hello/goodbye, our name and asking somebody else their name and also to ask someone how they were and say how we were feeling. It was great fun.

Apart from this we had a big challenge – we made pom poms for the Fayre. Mrs Ghafoor thought we would be finished in 20 minutes but it was far trickier and actually took a lot longer!  We have also made bracelets and cards but they were so good, most of us have already bought our own items. We do have a selection of fab items left so come along tomorrow to buy them!

The Fayre will be on from 10am – 12pm. See you there!

Our Rocket is called Blazing Blooms. We use it to help us understand what we are reading.

Class 3 Go Out and About

On Tuesday we went on an out and about trip to the library.  Before we left our class we each set ourselves 1 target.  We had to think carefully because the target had to be challenging but achievable.  When we returned we thought about whether we had achieved our targets.  Mrs Stewart and Miss Robertson said we all did very well.

Josh – My target was to ask the librarian how long I could keep my book for but I did something even better.  I asked her ‘Is there a book about dragons?’.  She found me a book about dragons and that made me happy.

Cary – My target was to pick a book myself.  I did great.  I chose two books by myself.  Then I got my own library card and borrowed the books using the machine.

Callum – My target was to pick a book by myself.  I was good at the library.  I now have my own library cards, one to keep at school and one to take home.  It is good to have books to read.  Out and About this Tuesday is going to be great.  We are going to the theatre to see the pantomime stage.  I hope this is going to be the greatest day ever.

Nathan – I wrote my own target. It was to be better behaved than the last time I was at out and about.  I was very well behaved and I was very kind.  I chose 2 ‘Diary of a Wimpey Kid’ books and borrowed them with no help.

Lots of news from P3h

This week in class we made magnet board games. Archie and Noah made Scooby doo’s haunted house. You need to collect 5 Scooby snacks boxes and collect wee Joe. If you land on the mystery “?” the Frankenstein and the Vampire get you. It can teleport you to the haunted house. In Michelle and Lauryn’s, George’s marvellous medicine game, you collect all the medicine bottles and try to get to the finish as quickly as possible. But if you land on the banana you go straight to the finish. In Tobin and  Gary’s Christmas game, there is ten levels where you collect Santa and Reindeer but you don’t want the Mountain man or the Evil elf.  On the 9th level you destroy the Mountain man and on the 10th level you defeat the Evil elf. If you collect reindeer you get bonus points and loose 5 points when you collect the mountain man. If you collect the mountain man five times you lose the game.

We play Squeebles on the I pads for maths. We use Squeebles to learn our times tables.  If we get our tables right we save a Squeeble from the Math Monster.  We also get prizes and bubble stones for doing really well.  At the end we can play bubble ball using our Squeebles and trading our rewards for different balls and flip fish.  We think Squeebles is brilliant and fun.  We would recommend it to people who like maths and need to practice their times tables.

We had a visit from Dr Pugh who told us all about magnets.  We made our own magnets, we rubbed the nail on the magnet and it turned magnetic so the paperclip stuck to the nail. We also learnt that you can get really big magnets that can make non magnetic things magnetic- like making frogs float.  We learnt that magnets were stronger than gravity.  He uses magnets at his work.  He paints mechanical parts  with special paint and then uses magnets to see if there are cracks which would make the items dangerous to use.

In class we read George’s Marvellous Medicine.  Miss Holwill decided to use this for us to practice our functional writing.  First we had to design and write instructions for our own medicine for grannies.  Some of the medicine would make them explode, make her nice or turn her  into your servant.  We wrote letters to Boots the Chemist to ask them to try our medicine recipes.  They said they would so we made posters to advertise our medicines.

We have finished our puppets for the Christmas Fair and look forward to seeing you on Saturday.

It’s p7b’s week isn’t it?

Our week:

Alistair: “We learned about how to use apostrophes in grammar. You use them when you are squishing two words together like must have into one word like must’ve. You also use them when it is someone’s property like mum’s shop or dad’s farm. You never use them for plurals like carrots or dogs. We played apostrophe pairs to help us learn the rules.”

Sophie M: “I enjoyed writing the thank you letters to the fallen soldiers this week. It felt like you were actually talking to them and it was enjoyable because I liked sharing what I had learned with them and I was able to tell them I remember them.”

Rabeea: “This week I enjoyed doing our new times table Big Maths Beat That. I enjoyed it because I like doing my times tables. I scored 65 out of 80.”

Christopher A: “I enjoyed drama this week because we did a full run through of all our songs and it meant that when we come back to it we can do the whole thing because we’ve done it before.”

Dean: “We learned about the end of WW2. I found it quite sad that the Americans dropped the nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and that so many people died and that America resorted to that.”

Isla: “I also found the nuclear bombs in Japan really scary. When the bombs hit people died instantly and were turned to ash. I don’t think they should have done it because America should have thought about how they would have felt if Japan dropped a bomb on them.”

Eve: “We made Christmas tree decorations out of salt dough cookies but they aren’t edible! We painted them with acrylic paint and there are stockings, snowmen, stars and trees. You can buy them at our stall at the Christmas fayre tomorrow and they are 50p each.”

Who has impressed?

Sam: “Rabeea impressed me by getting pupil of the week and being the first person in our class to get onto step 5.”

Sophie M: “Emma has impressed me by doing well with her work.”

Eve: “The whole class has impressed me by getting their best ever score on the new Big Maths Beat That (because it was their first ever score!) Everyone has also been doing really well with Cinderella Rockerfella.”

Dean: “Callum, Christopher, Amber and Alistair all impressed me by reaching step 4.”

Jane: “I’m proud of Sam this week because he was really good at being the teacher in Literature Circles because he was firm but fair and telling us what to do.”

Zenaib: “I’m impressed by Sophie M because she is always a really good friend to everybody.”

Christopher A: “Jane has impressed me this week because for the past two weeks she has done the door monitoring and taken her responsibility seriously.”

Mr Berginis: “I’m proud of the letters everybody wrote this week to the fallen soldiers. You showed how much you have all learned and you expressed how grateful you are for the sacrifices they made.”

P5d

 It’s almost December !!!!

WE are feeling really Christmassy in P5d this week. Making tree decorations to sell at the Christmas fayre has been great fun and a little messy.

Outdoor P.E.

This week we were developing our dribbling skills while travelling with the ball. Some of us found it tricky to move around and keep the ball under control.

I like getting out for fresh air – Shaun H

I am getting better at keeping the ball bouncing when I move around -Sophie W

Topic-                                                                                                                             We had great fun learning about how to make a good headline for the Battle of Stirling Bridge. . We used a game on the smartboard to identify what a good headline is and then made some of our own for display.

How we are developing as learners-    We are pretty good at discussing how we know what we know (metacognition) so now we are looking at how we manage ourselves to help our learning (self regulated learning). We are all able to follow basic class routines so that we are ready to learn, now comes the hard part …..managing impulsive behaviour! We will let you know soon how we are doing.

That’s it for this week. Have a great weekend !

P1 Cushion Club

This week the P1 Cushion Club have been learning some new songs from Fischy Music.  Their favourite song is about how comforting your teddy bear can be. It is called “My Teddy Bear is always there”. It is Mrs Stewart’s favourite. We have also been having fun dressing up.  We have to share the clothes and ask politely if we want something from someone else.  We take turns who gets to wear the tiger suit. It is everyone’s favourite.

Reflection Time in P3/2

We have been discussing some of the things we have enjoyed about school this week:

“I enjoyed doing my review jotter entry” (Daniel).

“I liked painting my fish in art” (Emily).

“I love learning numbers to 1000 in Maths” (Scott).

“I liked writing about having my own money tree” (Francesca).

“I liked playing football” (Ciaran).

“I liked writing about what I would do with all the money in the world!” (Skye).

“I enjoyed learning the Christmas service songs” (Murray).

“I enjoyed being nice to people” (Eva).

Glitter Galore in P1l

Primary 1l have been getting glittertastic making things for the Christmas Fayre tomorrow.  Pre-orders for the candle holders have been very strong and tomorrow there will also be beautiful christmas tree decorations at 50p each.

In maths this week we have been looking at the number facts of 4, looking at the different ways to make 4.  Everyone is getting the hang of it and next week we will look at the number facts for 5.

We have been up to the hall to practise our Nativity and things are really starting to take shape.  Please remember costumes are to be in for Monday.

Hopefully see you all at the Fayre tomorrow.
