p6s

P6s have been really busy this week developing our understanding of Space. We have started to use our note taking skills to gather research for our fact files which are really taking shape! In Writing we were working on using connectives to extend our sentences and wrote diary entries pretending we were on a mission to the moon. In Art we created space themed wax resist pictures which are looking fabulous!

This week we have started collecting golden tickets in class, Drama and in PE. We receive these for working super hard and trying our best. By the end of the week we even had our first prize box winner!

We are all looking forward to a lovely long weekend and another busy week next week.

P6h

Another busy week here in P6H.  We have been working on our writing this week and all travelled to Space on a mission.  We used a variety of connectives to join our sentences and all landed back safely. Phew!

We started building our Rocket this week and can’t wait until we have built it.  You might even get to see it at our Assembly, but only if we can move it because it is turning into a huge structure!

Maths saw us working on 24 hour time and we did lots of activities to develop our understanding.

A huge well done to Charlie who is our Pupil of the Week this week.  Have a great few days off everyone.  This is P6H over and out.

Magic Mathematicians in p2bg

P2bg blog entry 3

This week Mrs Gallagher has been really impressed with the class addition skills. Lots of children in the class are very confident in adding mentally which is superb! We have been learning a strategy to help us to add numbers called counting on. We know that we have to start at the number before the + sign and count on from there using the number at the other side of the + sign. We practised being animals that jump like frogs, rabbits and kangaroos to get from one number to another on a number line.

We have also been practising our recall of maths addition facts and are looking forward to our first BIG Maths challenge next week where we have to try to answer 7 questions in 20 seconds, it’s going to be tricky!

Gemma was awarded pupil of the week for making links in Maths. She spotted that if you know that 6+7 = 13, you can work out the answer to 6+8 by adding on 1 more to that answer. Mrs Gallagher was really impressed with her thinking. 🙂

Please find Miss Boyle’s blog from this week attached to this post.

P3e

We have been very busy this week in primary 3. We have continuing out talk about our community and we have been looking at our school community. We discussed our role in the community and how we should act when we are in school. We imagined what it would be like if there were no rules in schools and we thought that school could be dangerous and we would find it difficult to learn. We also discussed the roles of the staff and school and we wanted to find out more about the different jobs people did. We decided to interview people in school. We asked Miss Henderson, Mrs White and other staff about their jobs. We are going to share our information with primary one next week to help them learn more about the school. We really enjoyed interviewing the staff and taking their photo!

In art we were learning about drawing using line and shapes. We had to imagine what the classroom would look like at bird’s eye view. We now know that this means what the classroom would look like from above.

Awards:

Table of the Week: X-Ray Vision Superheroes

Pupil of the Week: Ellis

Class Dojo: Logan

Have a lovely long weekend. See you on Wednesday!

P3b’s Learning

For art this week, we drew a portrait of one of our family members and coloured them in the style of Van Gogh. This means we used small lines to build up colour into our pictures. Miss Bollen was very impressed with the detail in our work and has chosen some of us to share our fabulous work with Miss Henderson!

As part of our community topic, we had a closer look at our school community. We discussed the need for rules in a school and reflected on our rights and actions. We then imagined we were head teacher and designed our very own school uniforms! What’s more, we are in the process of making up an information booklet for the new P1’s. We had great fun making up questions and interviewing members of staff all around the school!

In Spanish with Mrs Clark, we have been learning basic greetings. We have learned words and phrases such as; hola (hello), que tal? (how are you?) and me llamo (my name is). We made a comic strip using this vocabulary.

Have a great long weekend!

The postie came to P1h

This week we had a parcel delivered to our classroom.  The Little Red Hen sent it to us.  We thought lots and lots about what could be in it.  Was it a loaf of bread or maybe a chicken!?!  No…it was a bag of flour, some yeast and a recipe to make bread.  We were not like the dog, cat and duck as we all worked together to stir and knead the dough.  We loved watching the dough prove in the class room, it grow so much it nearly spilled over the bowl.  At the end of the day we had a story and ate the yummiest bread and butter.

Have a good weekend!

Greetings from P4m

P4m Blog 12.09.14

Big Maths has started in p4m and already the weekly scores are getting better.

Water has been an interesting topic. We have carried out scientific investigations to filter some extremely muddy water. To water in test tubes, we added a variety of household ingredients to investigate which things are soluble or insoluble, we then poured our solutions and mixtures into Petri dishes to investigate evaporation. We know that it is a UNICEF right to have clean water and after learning about a girl in Niger we created diary entries retelling a typical day and some of difficulties she faces when collecting water.

Golden Time is all set to get even better next week. We are going to join up with p4g and we have already signed up for our Golden Activities. The Wii and iPads were popular as was the craft table. Next week we will update the selection of activities and a few interesting ideas have been suggested.

Ni hao from p7b!

Our week:

Declan: “We have been learning how to talk Mandarin this week. For example how to say hello and good bye. Ni hao is for hello and zai jian for goodbye.”

Kendal: “This week we’ve been learning how to draw Manga. Manga is a Chinese art form which has characters with big shiny eyes, small mouths, small noses and big heads. Check out our display at the top of the stairs.”

Jack: “We’ve been learning about how to use place value and adding skills to solve problems with calculating bills and costs of car deals.”

Lauren U: “We made hens with our p1 buddies this week. We painted our buddy’s hand red and pressed it down on paper then we added all the feathers and tail.”

Paul: “We did our third week of Big Maths Beat That and I beat my best score. Antonia set a new class record of 62.”

Flyn: “We did P.E. with Mr Jeffries and played Castles. Antonia and Kieran got a new record of knocking both castles down in six seconds.”

Kai: “For team challenge we had to make a picture with coloured shapes with our whole team. The person who saw the solution had to remember it and give clear instructions and the placers had to listen carefully about where to put the shapes.”

Ellie: “In writing we were writing an imaginative story called What A Day! We focused on emotions and we had to write about an amazing day we had had the day before.”

Chloe: “In grammar we learned when to use apostrophes and when not to. We use them to show that something belongs to someone and to shorten words like don’t. We never use them to say more than one of something like dogs or pencils.”

Who has impressed?

Kieran: “Mr Welsh has impressed me this week beacuse he helped me with my work by helping explain it. I’ve also been impressed by myself because I’m controlling my behaviour a bit better.”

Kendal: “Lauren K has impressed by being a good role model because she has been setting a good example for younger pupils.”

Kai: “Lauren C and Adam have impressed me because they managed to learn their Mandarin phrases without using their jotter.”

Chloe: “My p1 buddy Niamh has impressed by getting a certifictate at assembly.”

Ellie: “Antonia has impressed me by beating the class score on Big Maths.”

Lauren U: “My buddy from last year, Gemma, impressed me by getting pupil of the week.”

Jay: “Kendal has impressed me by bringing in tasty cupcakes for the whole class!”

Callum: “Declan has really impressed me because he has been a good friend this week.”

Flyn: “Kieran has impressed me because he has been working hard on his classwork.”

Emily: “I’ve impressed myself because I got my maths fully accurate.”

Taylor: “Emily has impressed me because her Manga art character met all the success criteria.”

Adam: “Harry has impressed me by being a great friend this week and he is improving his classwork.”

William: “Paul has impressed me by behaving well and getting pupil of the week.”

Mr Berginis: “I’m proud of how superb the class have been with their p1 buddies again this week. They have been caring and helpful. Keep it up.”

Maths

Mrs Drummond gave us a quiz this week about all about measure. We were able to demonstrate that we can identify the correct unit of measure to use when measuring different sized objects and we know how to calculate parts of a metre. We also had great fun outside with maths this week. We are learning about problem solving and went outside to do Sudoku in the playground. Calum Nicol had a great idea, he suggested that some people in the group should stand up by the flag poles looking down onto the Sudoku grids and we found that really helped!

Writing/LATC

We have been learning about the Battle of Stirling Bridge and used this as a focus for our writing this week. We were going to write a newspaper article about the battle so we had to look back at what we had learned in P4 about how to write a headline. Mrs Drummond was very pleased as we remembered some of the key elements that we had learned with Mrs Gafoor. We are beginning to understand how important it is to ‘take our learning with us’ when we go to a new class! We had great fun making headlines up about something that had happened in school this week. Almost all of us chose to write a headline about Mr Jeffries. He took Mrs Drummond’s Alan Shearer match attack card and pinned it to the wall hoping she would think it was missing. Here are some of the headlines we made up ….

P.E. Teacher pins Alan Shearer to the wall.

Class Teacher assaults P.E. Teacher!

Alan Shearer kidnapped!

We then used our headline writing skills to make a headline for or Battle of Stirling Bridge article ….

David – Wallace makes Edward think again at Stirling Bridge!

Lucy – Scots defeat English at Stirling Bridge!

Viggo – Victory to the Scots at Stirling Bridge!

Daniel – Scots trick the English at Stirling Bridge!

We are looking forward to learning more about William Wallace next week!

Science

We did the mentos eruption experiment this week. Quite a lot of the class predicted that nothing much would happen when the mentos were dropped into the cola. Ryan suggested that we make a funnel and stick a pen through it then we could put the mentos into the funnel and pull the pen out and they would all drop in properly. If the teacher does it by hand she gets covered in cola !!!! Here is what happened …..

Remember – No school until Wednesday!

Have a great holiday weekend!!

Class 1 have been busy!

We have had a very busy week in class 1.

As part of our ‘Our Community’ topic, we were learning about the post office. Joe’s gran sent us a letter. We opened the letter and discovered the important parts of a letter.

Lewis – You need to have the address, date, who is getting the letter and the from.

We used our checklist to help us write our own letters.

We also had a post office in our classroom.

Yolie – I played in post office. I put a stamp on the Hello Kitty letter and put it in the post box.

In maths we have been learning about shapes. We made models with Miss Waddell using junk and 3D shapes.

Joe – I made a robot and I had fun. It had rectangles and cylinders.

As a very special treat, Mrs McLean helped us to make Frozen mud.

Gabriel – It was the best thing I’ve ever seen.

Jayden – I love clean mud. It felt soft. It had water and tissues and soap. I squished it with my hands.

Class 3’s Maths Mission

In Class 3 at Maths Mission we measured the playground to see how big it was. We used a trundel wheel and walked around the perimeter of the playground. We worked as a group and found out that the perimeter is 65 meters. (Caitlin)

At Maths Mission we were measuring the perimeter of the playgound. The perimeter is the outskirts of the playground. When I done it on my own I measured 84 meters. When we done it as a group it measured 65 meters. In the future I would like to measure the full playground. I think it would be 300-400 meters. (Geordie)

We took our Maths outside this week. Our mission was to measure the perimeter of the playground. We used a trundel wheel to measure. It was 65 meters. I didnt really like this task becasue I prefer doing my Maths work inside becasue we can play Maths games. Although, I think we could play some Maths games outside one day for Maths Mission, which would make it more fun. (Callum)

P5m Hurry Back to the Future!

It’s been a hectic time for the time travelling nobles of P5m. We’ve spent time in prison for refusing to accept the English king as our overlord, our new king has been imprisoned and we’re exhausted from fighting alongside William Wallace in the Battle of Stirling Bridge. It was quite a relief to travel back to 2014 to practise our writing skills!

This week we have been developing our note-taking skills and learning to write a newspaper article. We are enjoying using our historical knowledge to create all different types of writing: letters, comic strips, newspaper articles – we wonder what will be next?

From the Blog Post Box

This week I enjoyed…

…science because we got to make our own experiments.                                               Roan

Our Day in P1l

Hello Everyone

We have had a great day today so we thought we would tell you about it. There were three extra special things, firstly it was our first time of getting changed for P.E and going up to the hall with our P.E teacher, Mr Jefferies. Everyone did a great job of getting changed and we only have a few wayward socks left behind.

We lined up with our bubbles in and went up to the hall to see Mr Jefferies. We worked really hard following instructions about how things work in the Gym Hall.

The second special thing was that we have all started our reading books. Everyone was very excited to get their books. We have been looking at how we hold a book, where we start to read and using the pictures to help tell the story.

This week we have been looking at the story of The Little Red Hen. Today Mrs Jamieson came in and like the hen she helped us to make some bread. We made two huge loaves then we ate them and they were delicious.

Bye for now from P1l

Hello from P3b

Last week in school we enjoyed P.E. We played the game Cat and Mouse. This is where three people are chosen as cats and they have to chase the mice! All the mice have to wear bibs tucked into their trousers and if their bib is pulled out, they are out of the game. The last person with their bib intact is the winner! Evan was our winner on Wednesday- well done!
On Tuesday we had a talk from the SSPCA (The Scottish Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals). The lady brought in a toy rabbit and told us how to take care of pet rabbits. For example, it is important that rabbits have a cage to live in and a large enough space to run around. Rabbits also need carrots and other vegetables to stay healthy. It is also important to hold a rabbit properly to stop it from jumping away and hurting itself.
Last week we started our class topic ‘Our Community Project’. Firstly, we discussed what a community is. We then reflected on our family community. We used adjectives to describe our family members during writing time. We also completed a family member survey to discover how many people each of us had in our immediate family. Towards the end of the week, we explored the story ‘The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse’. We had a closer look at the characters in the story and how their lives are very different because of where they live!
