P3H – Glasgow Science Centre Trip

Last week we had a fantastic time at the Science centre.

Here are some pictures of our trip.

We got to investigate and try all of the different science activities and enjoyed a Fun with Forces Christmas Workshop! We had to help santa sort out all of the push and  pull toys. Then we had to make a rocket to help Rudolph get back to the North Pole in time for Christmas!

We loved being able to share our learning with others.

P3/4W + P4N Christmas Fair / Sharing The Learning

Today P3/4W and P4N hosted a Christmas fair for their friends and family.  Over the last few weeks the children have been working for Buddy the Elf from the North Pole.  He has been sending the children letters and task cards with different challenges to complete.

The children all had to apply for a different job involved in the running of the business and were put into teams.  The created the name “Elves Forever” as their company name.  The children made a variety of crafts which they sold to their parents today at the fair.

The finance managers had to work out how much to sell each item for to ensure a profit was made.  The sales managers had to use their power of persuasion to encourage the customers to spend their money buying the crafts and playing the games the children had made.  The marketing directors made posters and invitations to advertise the fair and the managing directors made sure everyone in the team was getting along nicely and working hard.  The production managers had to make some extra things for the fair like reindeer dust and games.

Here are some comments from friends and family who attended our fair today:

“Smiles, team work and beautiful crafts for sale.”

“Lots of budding apprentices.  Great to see!”

“5* Excellent Christmas Fair organised by the children and their teachers.  Thank you for all your hard work.”

“I loved all the important jobs everyone had and the skills they developed in their roles.”

The pupils all feel really proud of their hard work and are now busy counting the money from today to work out how much profit they have made!  Thanks to everyone who came and supported the children’s learning!

P4/5 Incredible Sharing the Learning

The children of P4/5 on Friday 7th December waited patiently for the parents, grandparents and family members  to come to P4/5 Sharing the Learning.

First of all the children showed their Scratch program that they had written to help the P3s with their learning.  The P3 games included times table challenges, question and answers and even some French.  The adults also tried to write some code in Scratch, the P4/5s helped the adults with selecting the coding blocks.

After the adults were shown the Scratch programs some went on to play music with the Incredibox program.  Ms Anderson and some of the other adults were seen to be dancing to the tunes.

Some of the children also shared their Global Goals presentation that they did as part of their Minecraft Islands.  There were also boats and shelters that each island had built.  The children explained if their boats had floated or sunk during the experiment.

The children also shared their poems which started with ‘If all the world were’.  The children watch a BBC Authors Live event with a poet Joseph Coelho and created their spider diagram to inspire their writing.  The poems included ones about music, pens, space, technology, sweets and food.

The adults also looked at the learning walls inside and outside the classroom, looking at the artwork, French and STEM homework.

P4/5 had lots of fun sharing their learning and the adults had fun too!  Thank you to the adults for giving us their 2 stars and a wish from their experience.

P3/4W Dentist Visit

On Tuesday this week, Sally the dentist visited our class to teach us how to look after our teeth.

We learned about what happens if you do not brush your teeth.  They would get really yucky and sore and you would get cavities.

Sally told us if we eat too much sugar then we will get holes in our teeth.  She taught us about the different foods which are good and bad for our teeth.

1 can of cola has 10 teaspoons of sugar.  1 small blob of ketchup has 1 teaspoons of sugar in it.  1 small box of raisins has 7 and a half teaspoons of sugar.

It is important to brush our teeth two times a day for two minutes each time.

Thank you Sally for teaching us how to care for our teeth.
