Chef’s Apprentice Programme (CAP)

Dunblane Primary School are thrilled to be able to offer our Primary 6 pupils a unique and exciting opportunity to work alongside the school catering team. The Chef’s Apprentice Programme (CAP) has been designed to P6 pupil two days of work experience in the school kitchen and dining hall.  The pupils were required to complete an application form and go through an interview with the Depute Head Teacher and the catering manager.

This approach to learning is a fantastic way to bring the curriculum and learning to life. In line with Curriculum for Excellence, CAP delivers Health & Wellbeing and Technologies Experiences & Outcomes in a real life context, allowing children to develop and apply their knowledge, skills and attributes.

The programme was originally delivered by West Dunbartonshire Council, and we have adapted this model through partnership working with Stirling Council Catering Services. During the two days, pupils take on the role of a catering assistant. They prepare food, learn about health and safety and take on responsibilities in the workplace whilst providing their lunch customers with a high quality of service.

Pupils have shown an appreciation for work that goes into preparing school lunches, and how their learning now is relevant to their futures.
